Default quaife?

is there just one listing for all b-series trannys, or is the itr different from the rest?

reason i'm asking is because there is a used one locally for sale and the seller says that it fits all b-series trannys. i got this nagging feeling that it's not true

also... are there any telltale signs i can look for to see if it's in good condition?

Ben,
I have the Quaife and I do believe that it is the same for all the b-series. It is guaranteed for life even if you buy it used. I like it!

not true. they make separate quaiffe's for ls/b16 trannies and gsr trannies. I know that for fact.

Wishing I didn't sell my Quaiffe but oh well i needed the $$$

I once heard that they have LSD for B18 and another one for B16, but that they were basically the same unit and only listed them differently for marketing purposes. In fact, it's supposed to be the same model internally.

If anyone else has more information on that, pray tell... I'm quite curious myself...

to add and maybe help clarify, its off a JDM S1/J1 cable tranny, not sure if diff's are interchangable between hydro/cable tranny... but my guess is they arent?

I'm pretty sure the ring gear inside the 16A tranny is smaller thus it wouldn't fit if you tried to jam it into an S80/Y80 tranny.

This is clearly the case when we ordered two separate KAAZ LSDs last year and also why it is not possible to dump a 4.785FD into any hydro 16A tranny....

Not all b-series Quaife LSDs are the same. The B16/LS/GSR'92-93 LSD is different from the GSR/Type R LSD. I inquired about Quaife's close-ratio gearkit, and I was told that I would have to switch to a B16 type...so they must be different.

I'm pretty sure it says this somewhere in one of Quaife's ads. Can anyone with SCC or other mags verify this...

Raging Angel: dont you mean Cable tranny?

hehe

AFAIK any R LSD will bolt into any Hydro tranny.. its the 1rst gen cable tranny's that cant accept the R LSD, or FD for that matter.

naw man...
I'm pretty sure the LSD from an R won't go into a hydro 16A tranny because the final drive (ring gear) is too small.

That is why the LSDs from EG6s/EK4s are different than the EK9s (which are actually USDM ITR trannies to some degree)

Where the hell is Katman to settle this!?????

i know u cant run an R FD in a cable tranny, or an R LSD for that matter, i guess i assumed all Hydro tranny innards where the same

the ring gear on the b16a tranny has one less bolt compared to the ring gear on the b18a trannies. for instance, if you were to ordeer up a ATS final for a CTR, you would have to use the final for the itr. the ctr tranny has a itr lsd, therefore requires the itr final. that is why they are listed for b16a or b18 trannies. if you have a b16a tranny, and got the b18 lsd, you would have to get a b18 final also.
