Megasquirt and DIY Fuel Rail for CIS conversion !CHEAP!GHETTO!
This is not a honda but I thought some of you might enjoy this.
The car is a mk2 VW GTI, 1.8l 16v. For those of you that don't know this car came with CIS injection (which is kind of like a rising rate FPR, only in vac.). It was crap. Really restrictive, not much to upgrade, and a backfire killed it.
So we started looking at options to convert it to EFI. It had to be cheap. I was going to get a honda dizzy on there so that I could run a p28 w/uberdata. Cool idea - too much trouble.
Another option was using the Corado g60 management. ECU, Rail, injectors, harness etc. Supports boost too as the g60 was factory supercharged. But it was to expensive for a ecu that is not easily tuned by the DIYer.
So we built Megasquirt StandAlone, made our own harness, and (the best part
) made a fuel rail from copper.
Car has 2.5 bar map sensor
Full coil-over setup
Stand Alone
On the way is DSM 450cc injectors and an adjustable FPR (we are using the oem one now and the pressure is in the 80 psi range) and EDIS.
I am waiting to do the final tuning until the injecters and FPR are installed. (But car runs drives and idles great - even though I forgot what car I pulled the injectors from at the yard so I am unsure about there flow (a little tuning fixed that)) I still have to install the trigger wheel and sensor and wire in the EDIS. Then I can chuck the dizzy too.
The wire will be in split-loom etc. It is all over for easy debugging.
Total cost for car, standalone, suspension, rail, injectors, sensors, EDIS - $1200.
Rail:
The one on top is my brothers first attempt at copper soldering - the bottom one is the one on the car.
Relay board:
Mega Stim:
MegaSquirt Board:

In car:
My brother's first time soldering anything too.
Now it is finally time for boost.

I saw this on a 3SGTE. They had a guy from Toyota come do the tuning. It ran great. Good luck with your project!
A friend was telling me about the system just a few days ago, It seems pretty cool and very cheap.
Like 300$, Just have to put it together

HOW ARE YOU HANDLING ignition timing?
i have an 85 jetta in the grarage and i was going to try to run a p28 on uberdata for EFI for the same reasons as you,
how are you doing a boost retard on the ignition, megasquirt only controls the EFI?
hey man and are u going to boost on the stock drivetrain and such? g60 fly and cluch and tranny are coolio if u can find em! im looking rite now for such as well!

cool ****! isn't there a super megasquirt now that can be used as full standalone? I looked at their site a while ago and I thought it was pretty cool.
You can also use a CIS setup from a turbo volvo on that motor and support like 250whp or so but then you don't get to sweat copper pipe together so i like your method better

don't forget that while the g60/vr6 style trannys are stronger, the diffs are still garbage. My buddy and I just bought a running g60 w/ 70k on it for 600 and he is using the tranny and injection on his 2.0 16v turbo gti. First step when making HPs on a veedub?...quaife/peloquin.

Still good for ~170 whp. If you'de gotten a fuel distributors from a turbo car, or an Audi 5000 w/ the fifth injector line polugged off, you can hit 220 whp reliably. No comment about backfires, those will bend the fuel dist. arms.

G60 ECU isn't a very good platform, even for a stock G60.

Mini-MS, isn't it? The fuel rail is sexy, btw. You won't pass tech at a serious track with how copper work hardens over time, but I'd run it for now without a worry.

For timing control, we will be using the Ford distributor-less ignition from an escort. I already have all the parts, I just need to mod the MS board and mount the trigger wheel, coil pack, and module. Then I flash the MS with the megasquirt'n'spark software and have full timing control too.
I was thinking about getting the CIS off of an older turbo car, but as ghetto as this car is I didn't want junkyard parts for my fuel management. The G60 Digi 1 management seems to be working pretty good for people that are using it. The only reason that I was even thinking about using that was because SNS Tuning is local to me and they tune it really well. I know of at least two people in Atlanta that are using it on their boosted cars. Turbo 16v Rabbit and I thing a G60'd Rabbit. Oh, and the fuel rail will most likely be replaced eventually by a nice aluminum piece.

Clean up your wiring, you're making us VW guys look like the hacks we are
You going to MSnEDIS to drop the stock 16v distro? Good choice!
I have a MS ecu waiting to go into my ABA Rabbit. Should be fun.

Joseph, it is not the mini-ms - it is the standard ms 2.2 board. Got the kit from glensgarage.com.
He labels everything and includes a cnc case. Not to mention digi-key is always back ordered on some of the parts.
The rail might not pass inspection at a serious track, but they don't care at steel in AL.
It will be replaced as plohip said. We wanted to get the car up and running ASAP and we are poor
Someone asked if ms controls timing. You can reflash it to control EDIS or a dizzy car. We will be using EDIS. And yes there is an ultrams but it is still in dev. stage.

So does his! The only thing I don't like about it is the low volume static. I think the CD motor is causing some interference. Does yours do that? Turn the volume almost all the way down while you play a CD and listen carefully.

eh about MS and EDIS
do you need 2 seperate boards one to control the fuel and another one with the programming to control ignition or can you program them both into one board,
i think doin it with 2 seperate controllers is the only way,? or am i mistaken coolio!
and is there anyway that i can use one of the MS flashes for ign to control timing using the stock vw disributor in my 85 8v:?

You can run MS fueling and ignition control in one board, either normal one pulse per spark with a distributor (MSnS) or a waste spark with a Ford crank trigger and EDIS module (MSnEDIS). You could use two boxes, but why bother!
You can use your stock GTI distributor, and ignition amp with an MS setup modded for MSnS. Just plug the hall sender into the tach input on the MS (use Vcc to power it the hall, not 12v!) and then use FIdle to trigger the ignition amp. There are a few diagrams on the Yahoo pages in the files section that'll help more then I can possibly type here.
