Why is it that Marlboro was not allowed to have their name on the Ferrari but Lucky Strike, Mild Seven, and Benson and Hedges were allowed on their respective cars?
Eventful race overall. Glad to here Schumacher is OK.

Because Marlboro already has a sponsorship presence with a race team/series in the U.S.

Goddamn, what a fuckup by the FIA and the event organizers.
Montoya getting black flagged was retarded, because, as David Hobbs was saying, if the FIA knew the rules they should've pulled him on lap 2.
Ralf being left out there for so long scared the **** out of me...I'm so glad that it looks like he was alright. If I was MS, heads would be rolling right now for not taking action a LOT sooner.
That race was a regular circus...

The other companies did not sign the agreement with the US Attorney General regarding the restriction of tobacco ad/sponsorship to one sport/series. It's a complicated relationship. Imperial Tobacco markets Player's cigarettes in Canada, but Marlboro's parent company is the US distributor of Player's in the US. That's why Marlboro gets to keep their livery while the Forsythe Champ Car team had to revert to a "Team Players.ca" livery while racing in the US.
Souza Cruz is a South American tobacco company owned by BAT. One of their brands is "Hollywood" and a few years ago there were three Hollywood cars, 2 in CART (Luis Garcia Jr and Tony Kanaan) and 1 in the IRL (Felipe Giaffone). The Hollywood brand does not have an official presence in the US and that is why they were allowed to sponsor cars in both series.
If you remember the 2000 Indy 500, Penske had to remove "Marlboro" from the sidepods of his Dallaras, though they were allowed on the uniforms of the team since the official team name is "Marlboro Team Penske". Penske was primarily a Champ Car team in 2000. Because they became an IRL team in 2001, they were allowed to keep the Marlboro livery since Marlboro did not have a presence in any other series in the US.

Why? Like you said, it wasn't against the rules. F1 is a team sport. It's not Ferrari's fault they play it better than anybody else.

I don't know man... it's just seems wrong. I mean, I know winning is winning and ultimately that translate to money but some things just seem like they're in bad faith. Pulling a cell phone out of the uprights' padding isn't against the rules but it's just poor sportsmanship. I know it's not the same thing but meh... nevermind. I'm sick and I can't form a complete thought right now. It just seems like a bitch move, that's all.
At the risk of sounding like a banwagoner, I've really started to open my eyes to Sato since Monacco.

I took some 420 pictures this weekend. Including some of Sato and the Ferrari pair spraying each other on the podium. (seats are about 40 feet away) I will try to throw some up here in the next day or so.
Schumacher/Ferrari I feel anticipated the 2nd safety car period when Ralf's crash happened, and pulled him in (no confirmation, but it seemed a little early for a stop) This was the norm in NASCAR/CART before they would close the pits, so Ferrari was on top of strategy. Bingo. Free stop.
the 3 min it took to get to Ralf, who looked to be not moving and at least unconcious in the car was sick. Watkins left for the scene about a min after, and may be a great Doctor, but let some pros handle the response. (meaning the Indianapolis/Speedway fire department that works Brickyard and the 500)

It didn't help that Watkins had to go all the way around the track. Speaks highly of strategically placing emergency vehicles around the track for the quickest response possible.

Yea..F1 is pretty progressive in terms of safety, but they dropped the ball here. Watkins could have jogged down pit road and hopped the wall faster than he made it around..why even send him that way?
Still I think more pressing is that the "regular" Indy 500/B 400 crews should be on hand for a crash in that section.
