Default Valve Adjustment question

the only question I have is that, do you adlust each cylinder according to the firing order as in 1.3.4.2 and making sure that each of them are at TDC according to the 1.3.4.2 order

yesh...actually, you can adjust them in any order you like. most people just follow the firing order because its easiest.

helms manuals rox....even the e-helms

now getting the tolerances down....thats a pain in the ***.

Ya, what he said. Also, for best results adjust at 100 degrees or cooler.

What I do is use a remote starter button that I made out of two leads and an old ford starter button. disconnect the distributor, and battery put the two leads on the starter solenoid then connect the battery back up. I do one cylinder at a time. Watch the lobes on the cams and when the rocker arms are on the back of the lobes I adjust that set of valves.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by El Pollo Diablo &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">too lazy to turn the engine by hand?</TD></TR></TABLE> Actually I started using the remote starter button about 15 years ago on high compression V-8's, and was to lazy to pull the plugs. Some of the V-8's I have had, I put solid lift roller cams in. I had to adjust valves about every tank or two of gas. And you have to pay more attention, because you can't see the cam. You have to adjust the exhaust valve as soon as the intake valve closes, and adjust the intake as soon as the exhaust begins to open.
sometimes when you adjust multiple cylinders you might have a rocker arm resting on the side of the cam lobe. Thats why I do one cylinder at a time. I might have to spin the cams a couple more times, but it ain't no sweat off of my nuts.
