Does anyone know what the closest thing to Honda Manual transmission fluid and Honda Dual Pump Fluid is?
I'm sure Honda makes a good amount on the sale of oil, and perhaps gets good transmission and differential life out of the vehicles in the US, but outside the country their fluids are not available.
Believe it or not there is no Honda fluid available with 1500 miles of here. Not even the Honda dealer has fluid.
Looking at used oil analisis, I have determined that my best option to replace the manual transmission fluid is Chevron Delo 400 5W-40 Synthetic. By default I may end up using Dexron III as a replacement for the CVT and Dual Pump Fluids.
Does anyone know more about these fluids?

GM synchro, dont use synthetics though, not good.

 

There is no GM Syncromesh fluid available either. Most GM vehicles end up with whatever their local ignorant mechanic puts in (normally GL-5 80W-90) and live with grinding noises and hard shifting and swearing not to buy GM products again because they don't work. The exception being the GM/Isuzu products that use motor oil in the trans.
I have begun to use Delo Synthetic 5W-40 in those S10's that come to me. I was hoping there was some technical knowledge on this board that knew something more about the fluids.

shiipping is only part of it. Shipping adds about 40% to the FOB of an average oil (if imported in 45,000 lb lots). Taxes add 100%. Then you add $200 per product per year, plus a process (prior to importing) of submitting a full product analisis, infrared graphs of finished products, ISO 9000 certification for the plant, QA certification from an ISO 9000 certified lab, a certification that it provides at least the proteccion of a GL-4 (for transmissions and differentials), a statement sworn before a Judge that the product imported is what is on all the documents. Then each month you submit in their software how much you imported and what you did with it. If you comply with all this, each year you can repeat the process. Some people used to smuggle oil in suitcases or call them spare parts, but since the airlines have increases security, shipping oil by air is very expensive, as the package has to be further incased in plastic and plywood.

 

dunno about the honda fuild.. but i drain and switch to use Motul Motylgear 75W90.. so far so good..

 

GM Synchromesh is made for GM's, its mostly kerosene, are you guys recommending because you heard about it or because you use it. Somebody said not to use synthetic? My friend has been running 10W 30 synthetic on his turboed LS for almost a year.

kerosene....no

i've been using it for over a year now....best honda shifting tranny i've even felt; period.

They don't have it and they are not willing to order it? What fluid does the dealer use for the Dual Pump Fluid (which is the same as CVT fluid, just the newer name for it).

And if you REALLY can't get it, maybe you should buy a car you can actually service in Bolivia.

 

The dealer might be convinced if someone would pay the fees mentioned above, but the first quart ends up costing you around $500.
They use 15W-40 motor oil in the transmissions and Dexron II in the differentials. Most mechanics are using GL-5 80W90 in both, making shifting real hard and repairs frequent.

 

Sounds like you are going to have to bite the bullet and order in a lifetime supply in one shot. Paying $500 for oil once is cheaper than replacing the diff and tranny every other year. Hell, you could be the new Bolivian Fluid King. You ship us drugs, we ship you oil.

 

Among my 12 vehicles none is actually a Honda. I import and distribute two brands of oil and people have come to depend on me for the right product for their vehicules. (www.widman.biz)
I pay the fees and taxes to have Dexron III/Mercon, Mercon V, ATF+3, ATF SP3, 75W-90, 4 different 80W-90's, 2 different 85W-140's. Honda is getting to the market share point where I would add their fluids if I could get them wholesale and consolidated with my full containers of other products each week, but since they don't give their formulas to others, It's hard to get. (I'm able to get the Mitsubishi fluid only because I represent Chevron and they make it for Mitsubishi. (but they only sell it in drums of 55 gallons). I bring in the drum and sell it to Mitsubishi. GM and Honda fluids are the next missing products.
If anyone knows of a dealer or someone who qholesales their products in the Tulsa area, let me know.

Since you seem to know the recipe to the GM fluid. Please post the rest if you could and where you got the info? I am very doubtfull that there is kerosene in a mission fluid.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong but, last time I checked, Duel Pump fluid looked like ATF..

I don't think you'll find an oil base product that will top Amsoil.... if there are any.

If you insist of using a replacement then try the Amsoil 75w90 synthetic gear lube....

 

Yes, I believe amsoil makes some good productgs, although their claims are often contrary to unbiased tests run by various institutions. You have to be aware of what you are looking at and believing. But specifically, although their site does not say what they use, I believe that their Synthetic Gear Oil has a Sulfur/Phosphours EP package that is detrimental to yellow and other soft metals. This formula would not come close to either of the Honda fluids. That is why motor oils become a better option in many transmissions. It is also about 30% more viscous than the Honda Transmission oil and twice the viscosity of ATF. The Honda Manual Transmission oil is a high detergent oil with a Zinc/Phosphorous anti-wear package.
As I have been able to figure out with the transmission fluid, I want to find out more about the dual pump fluid.
