Transmission removal for ACT clutch in Accord PROBLEM?!?
ACT Heavy Duty clutch going into '96 Accord...
Problem is... transmission does NOT want to budge away from the block. From what I can see, ALL bolts have been removed. For those who will ask:
Top transmission bolts are out, front engine bracket is undone, rear tranny bracket is undone, top tranny mount is out, flywheel cover is out, starter is out.
From the looks of it, ALL bolts are out. I have taken pieces of wood with a mallet to try and bang the tranny away from the block, but nothing is working. I tried to do the same while jacking up the tranny at the same time. The piece of **** will not come loose.
Oh yeah, axles are out as well... this thing SHOULD be able to come away from the block. Has anyone ever ran into this? I have taken numerous B-Series trannies off without problems.. this one is busting my *****.
Any inputs appreciated!

Did you remove the three additional bolts on the backside of the engine? By the rear mount?

nope...I know what you are talking about though.. Those bolts just hold the bracket to the tranny...
There are 3 more bolts in that area closer to the block...those are what is holding the tranny on...
The three from the top are the tranny to engine bolts nad the three in the back are the engine to tranny bolts...
Just take a looksee and you'll find em...directly behind where the rear mount goes..

I just went downstairs and looked... those 3 bolts ARE out.
I have repeatedly banged this transmission with a sledge, and a piece of wood... the wood splits, this tranny is going nowhere.
I removed the distributor to see if there were any bolts I was missing, and it looks like I have them all covered. Does anyone have a pic of a SOHC Accord transmission so that I can see exactly where every bolthole is in the casing? Thanks...

Yes, 2 bolts from shortblock into tranny, and 3 bolts from tranny bracket into tranny... those are all out.
Are there any bolts in the casing itself that go all the way thru into the block (similarly to how one of the starter bolts does) that I may be missing?

um....winner for the award for worst idea ever???
when ALL the bolts are off, the tranny will come out with ease, look for more bolts, dont break the case/engine/bolts holding it on

Not always. Sometimes the dowel pins can get corroded and hold the tranny pretty tight. I usually use a prybar to get them apart.

If I remember right, there are 8 bolts holding the tranny to the block.
Passenger side mount needs to come out for room. Rear mount of course. Lower motor down to make more room to work in. Make sure everything is unhooked from the tranny. It shouldn't take more than a few rocks back and forth to get the tranny to seperate. If it won't, you forgot something.

I got it guys...
There was ONE 17mm engine to tranny bolt that is very hard to see because of bracing. And my God... was this *the hardest* bolt to get at with force (it was VERY tight). Took alot of contraptions but it finally came out, and the tranny came away from the block on its own
Thanks for all of the replys.

Where was it? The one on the back of the block? or the one on the front of the tranny at the bottom?

Far back of the block... way out of sight... especially because of how DIRTY this car is that I am working on. It was very well disguised!
i used a screw driver to pry it open from all around.
here was my install... dunno if it'll help
