Replace Head Gasket ?
Hey guys....
I have a 2001 Australian DC2R...
If I take the head off for port&polish-ing would I need to replace the head gasket?
Can I just re-use the old gasket?
If I need to replace it... Do you think I should get a stock head gasket or a thinner aftermarket gasket?
The compression ratio is 11.1 : 1 now...
If I use a thinner head gasket, ie. spoon, do I need to get the car re-tuned? if NOT,is it safe?
I only have a vafc... do u think I really need to re-tune? or would it be allright if I leave the setting as it is?
My base ignition timing is set at 18, but I always use 98 RON roughly equals to your 94 octane (I think)
anyway... my car is not running lean...
here is my last dyno.
what do you think?
PS. Don't worry about the low reading... Australian dynos always read a lot lower than the US because of different correction used.

You need to replace your headgasket every time you remove your cylinder head.
If you go to a 2 ply headgasket you will not have to retune your setup, it will be a slightly higher c/r but it wont affect anything to the extent of having to retune your vehicle.
If I was you I would go with a 2 ply :-)

thanks for the reply...
the stock gasket is 3 ply, right?
what about the spoon one... is it 2 ply...
sorry I dont know much about it...
can anyone tell me how much compression increase I will get with the spoon gasket?
anyway... I search and I found out that thinner gasket = reduced cam timing... ???
is that true
what effect will it have on the performance of the engine
thank you

You might need some cam gears (to correct cam timing issues) ... especially if they mill the head when doing the port and polish.

er...........
I dont have cam gears at the moment and I'm not planning to get them... I dont have the money now
If I dont correct the timing... what effect will the reduced timing do to the performance?
thanks
