Arizona Emissions: Almost passed with fully built LS/V-TEC Turbo, What 2 do?

Default Arizona Emissions: Almost passed with fully built LS/V-TEC Turbo, What 2 do?

I have a B18B1 LS-V-TEC T3/T4 Turbo 8:1 CR. I have a lot done to this car. I was pretty surprised that it almost passed. Here are my STANDARDS for a 93 Honda Civic and my 2 test that I’ve failed. I was told to lean it out a bit because it would fix my 12.41 CO failure on the second test. I did not want to do anything drastic because I was so close, so nothing else was changed besides adjusting the AFC a bit. See below. What do you think? Opinions please…

Hydrocarbons&lt;HC&gt; 1.00 0.91 1.50
Carbon Monoxide&lt;CO&gt; 12.00 12.41 17.32
Oxides of Nitrogen &lt;NOX&gt;2.50 1.34 1.41


I am running an AFC Hack and had the following settings for first test (also had a good driver):

High: 1-4 @ -35%, 5 @ -34%, 6 @ -33%, 7 @ -32%, 8 @ -30%
Low: 1-8 @ 0%

My second test I changed to the following (Different driver from first, kinda all over the screen on the IM147 dyno test):

High: 1-8 @ -38%
Low: 0%

I am running 8lbs of boost, they only run it to like 4.5 RPM's....Should I turn down the boost,,??

If you lean it out, your CO emmisions will decrease.

Someone told me that AZ didnt have a smog check!!!! I guess they were wrong.

Yes they are wrong but we only have smog test in the RURAL/METRO areas like Phoenix/Tucson areas...

I tried to lean it out by dropping the AFC to -38% wich was at -35% but HC's and CO's both failed this time. I am going to go back to my original settings and run no air filter and a couple of fuel PSI lower and hopefully pull this beast through...
