Default Check Engine light and maintence issues

I just got a check engine light that came on, my car is a 1996 accord EX V-6. Im assuming its OBD-II but I looked under the dash and there isn't a connector to hook up a diagnostic tool like on my 97 Camaro Z28. How do I check for the trouble code?

Also my car has 112,000 miles on it and on the original timing belt. How difficult is it to swap the belts and water pump? Also what is the going rate for a mechanic to swap this stuff?

if you are new with engine work, i prefer bringing it to a shop, going rate for belt + water pump around my area is like 200 and change...

Im not new to engine work....well on a Honda yes... It can't be any harder than rebuilding the top end and swapping a cam on a LT1 Camaro.

I would have never thought to check there! Im going to need a 12 pin ALDL connector to read the code right? Is there software I can download onto a laptop to read the codes?
