Default lower vtec......yes this again

i have a stock 96 gsr and the vtec kicks in at roughly 6000 i think it is technicaly 5900. when i am driving fast or racing i feel like im bogging out until vtec kicks then i am gone but sometimes it takes to long and iv already lost. i was wondering if their is a good chip or ecu that will lower it to somewhere around 5400 but i need it to change fuel map and all that other stuff as well. any suggestions for a full vtec tune that will work well now and later with mods.
i have tons of questions i will be posting later so all u techies please help.

Your VTEC isn't kicking in at 5900 RPM, the sound you hear is your secondaries opening. Your VTEC engages at around 4800-4900 RPM. So, if you do get a VAFC and tune it for 5400, you will actually be raising your VTEC engagement point.

So, if you do get a VAFC and other mods, you should tune it on a dyno so that you know what the optimum point of engagement would be for your mods.

First, what mods do you have on the car?

Stock manifold or aftermarket (single runner or stock GSR dual stage runner)

If your car is stock, then your vtec is engaging at 4400rpms and then your secondaries upon up at 5750 which is where you feel the acceleration change.

Get into more depth and I or someone can help you out. Because I really don't understand what you have on your car and what I can offer for advice depends on more description.

As far as tuning. Or getting your vtec changed then getting a VAFC or Hondata and hitting the dyno will easily cure that. You could even do some street tuning or butt tuning with the VAFC and feel the car out and get it to somewhere comfortable for the moment. But the best way to go is the dyno and a reputable tuner.

More details on your car/setup and Ill help out.

i guess you now know that you that your vtec kicks in at 4400rpms and the sound that you're hearing is your secondaries opening up. you should leave your vtec at the factory set 4400 rpms because that is the optimum engagement for those cam profiles. the only reason you should move it is if you have more aggressive cams which are designed to make power at a higher rpm.

when you get your cams then you can play with your vtec engagement points. as for now, i would suggest you leave it alone and concentrate on the exhaust that you say you really need.

Leaving vtec alone is definately the way to go. Upgrade with some aftermarket parts then we can talk about raising vtec, etc. That should be done on the dyno anyway. You seem to be atleast a few bills from that point, mod the car first then think about the dyno.
