Okay, it's a year later, and now I have another "the best" question...
I asked about a year ago about the best system that I could get in a certain budget and ended up with an Eclipse CD8053, Diamond S600s, Eclipse S8992, and JL 300/4. Tell me about security systems. I want a really good one and don't know how pricing works on them. I want to put in a small backup battery and might need diode isolators, so tell me about that too. What should I be looking for, and what are the going prices.....
.....before I invest in a JL 1000/1 and 12w7.

backup battery - $19
"diode isolators" - 25 cents per isolator
no ... really its just a N4001/4 series diode correctly connected
Window Roll up - $35
Microwave/Proximity Sensor - $30-40
Tilt Sensors - $30
Each relay + harness = $5-10
Hood pins ...cheap enough..
Fuel Cut - 2 relays and a switch
These can be added on some of the CHEAPEST of alarms ! Back in the day I belive choosing an alarm with DSM technology, built in high power relays, code rolling, would easily set alarms apart - I'm not a professional installer - but it seems that everything out of Taiwan etc is just about all the same.
the point i'm trying to make here is that everything for a security system is much cheaper than the labor it takes for a good installer to DO THE JOB RIGHT. I've toatally pushed the fact that a cheap alarm brain, installed correctly, with the accessories you'd like - will match up to anything else out there. Don't get me wrong - I love the features some of these alarms have - Viper + DEI components make me a happy installer, compustar and all the rest of them ditto - but as far as how much you want to pay for an alarm? Make sure you budget a GOOD amount for the installer - it takes time too! Don't rush your installer or ask for the car back in a day!

I plan on installing myself. I took a good long time to do my car when I ran cable everywhere. Getting that 1/0 through the stock rubber boot was like delivering a baby...
