Saw this in S2K forum...
This guy was trying to describe to ITR-GMan about ITR vs. S2K... most of it I agree with, but do people really think that S2K owners are a "higher" class person than myself? I dont know, I just thought this post was funny and figured i would post it.

i have had two ITR's and loved them. i sold my last itr to buy a car that would be paid off. that didnt last long, i got to good of a deal on the s2k i am driving now.
from my personal experience both cars are very similar. they are both pretty raw.
the reason i bought an s2k instead of another itr was because i could not find another itr up to my standards. most now have fairly high miles or have been modded.
owning the s2k is totally different than owning an itr. most people view the itr as another integra(those who dont really know what it is) and i think it is getting sort of a ricer immage because of all the fast and furious hype.
the s2k on the other hand puts you in a different crowd,( young professional, doctor, etc) the more mature crowd(i use the word mature loosely).
i would say that your decision should be based on what you are going to do with the vehicle, not what you would LIKE to do with the vehicle.
there is something to be said for a drop top sports car....fun
p.s if you buy the s2k , BUY A BEATER....

I have a S2K as my beater/daily driver and a ITR as my race car.
His theories are essentially correct.
Most "regular" people have no clue what type of car the S2K is... they ask, "What is that?" Most people think every and anything but not a Honda.
Most people think the ITR is a "integra" and nothing special, except a yellow integra (this was when it was street legal).
There is definitely a different "crowd" when you are in the S2K than the ITR. I am now 32 and do feel better (I don't attract too many ricers, get looks from women, people ask what type of car it is, etc.) in the S2K as opposed to the ITR (at least driving around NYC.)
As much as we don't want to admit it...there is part of driving that is posing...sort of "look at me". The S2K has a higher "look at me" value than the ITR...at least from the type of people you want to attract attention from.

Yeah, i like an S2k but for the price which is getting up there i would rather run a Cooper S or a TT. Most ( but not all ) S2K people i meet seem to be more like the Corvette people.. You know with the corvette watch, socks, shirt, etc.. Less about what the car was built for and more a statis symbol.. Now i am a bit of a hippocrite i have a Land Rover ... But its just a truck and does what its supposed to in all weather.

Oh I agree... at times I am totally a poser (corvette type) when driving the S2K. Even though I know what to do with the car, I am usually just "pimpin " the car....driving on the highway trying to look good.
I admit to this because honestly besides being a good autox and track car, the S2K is a good "cruising" car (ie pimpin) car.

I live in Europe, what may lead me to other opinios but I don`t like S2K owners.. It`s exactly what he sais... They think (as former EE9 drivers) they are now in a better league..."oh yea, now I`m one of the young successful youngguns, chicks here I am"... They behave awul to ITR drivers. They are still dying for the gold card and the Rolex and haven`t realized that the real boys pay cash and wear swatch (or no watch at all). It`s something we call "new-rich"... a negative expression for people who think they are the **** but they`re not.
I like my ITR because it`s a car that doesn`t compete with any other car or league... To small to take a **** with Porsches, to fast to belong to other 1,8 n/a cars, to track-capable to be smiled at by BMW drivers..
Well, we just have 950 Integras between our borders.... Only Type R`s .. That is, what makes the big difference I think... S2k all the way... ITR`s only 1 or 2 a year.

I had my S2k before owning an integra, most people have no idea what a type R integra is
I get noticed hardly at all in my Integra but when I had the S2k you could see the heads turn at lights
mabye becuase I'm 23 and look mid twenties people wonder what i'm doing in a car like that, no idea really
but I do get plenty of looks in the C32 now, but that's the same deal...mostly everyone just see's it as a Mercedes C class, or even just a Mercedes, when its' a whole lot more
you type R owners know what you have, and still turn my head everytime I see one
but the general public see's the S2k in a much higher class...ie 30k car to a 20 somethingK car$$$
just my .02

I was just having this discussion yesterday with one of my buddies. We came to the conclusion that:
Yes, S2000s are definitely hott cars, but far not worth the money in our opinions. I would def take a hype R any day of the week over an S2K, for my own reasons and sentimental values of course. The "new-rich" term fits many of the S2K owners i have met and i would tend to agree!

I would agree the S2k is a more mature car, and I wouldnt mind having one, or maybe a M Coupe or something.
Yet at the same time, not having a car payment rocks.
And if you want to do any road racing or HPDEs, nothing really touches the ITR IMO.

Maybe you guys should meet up with more S2K enthusiasts instead of just owners. I own one and thought that other owners were like Vette owners too. They all seemed like they thought there were the **** driving around town. I started to meet up with guys that post at S2KI.com and they are cool as ****. The general crowd is very similar to ITR crowd. A couple of them used to own ITR's even. Lots of them are Auto-X ******. The age range of the folks are larger than that of us ITR types. If you hang out with true enthusiasts, we are pretty much the same. There are ITR owners out there that are snobby, just like some vette owners appear to be.

well let me pipe in since i am the one that wrote that post...
i do not think that i am in a higer class because i own an s2k... my statement was that when the first my00 came out there were not a lot of teenagers buying them, more young professionals, that could afford the $500 a month car payment and insurance. (unless mommy and daddy paid for it) which is great, i think all parents should buy their kids a $34k car...
yes it has changed now that the my00 is more affordable with used ones selling for less than 20k in some instances.....
i have also owned two type r's and never thought i was in a higher class either, but i have been on this forum long enough to know that there are itr owners out there that thinks the type r is the king of all....

The S2K is definetly driven by an older crowd in general, alot of savvy older folks that realized how much better a car it is than a Z3 or Boxter (IMHO) and paid low 30's for a very nice roadster that has performance to back it's looks unlike a lot of other "sports cars".
As much as I love ITR's, they are a huge negative attention magnets and it's hard to enjoy one when daily driven.

I don't understand why you guys care or concern yourself with what others say as generalizations.
The flashy car with big wing stereotype stucks - but it holds true a lot of the time.
The obnoxious minority ruins it for us all - but who really cares?
S2000 costs more. It's a three season car. (you may think your ITR is a three season car - but I see tons of Integras in the winter, an ITR is no different in this regard. Snow Tires + ITR = fun and safe) OF COURSE its going to attract those who make more money, who consequently, USUALLY are older. Duh.........

THis is very well put IMO.....and you know what Chris your right, who gives a fawk what anybody thinks. If your reason for buying something is to impress others your gay......sure we all like material items from time to time and enjoy the "popularity" if you will that often accompanies perhaps a specific car, but i am an enthusiast which seperates me from that crowd. I didnt own an R to pick up biatches or count how many people stared at the R when i drove through town. I bought the car b/c i knew how bad *** it performed and how much fun to drive it would be.

I got more looks in my del Sol than in my ITR. Granted the stunnas see the bright yellow integra and break their necks trying to scope it out, but overall more looks for more types of people in my del SLOW than in my ITR. Afterall, its just a yellow integra
