Default Hankook H405 and Falken 512 VERSUS Kumho 712

I have a 4th gen prelude, mostly aggressive street driving.

I normally run with Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s, but its time for new tires and i'm wondering about some others. Can anyone compare the Hankook Ventus HRII H405s or the Falken Ziex ZE-512s versus something i'm more familiar with like the Kumhos?

Do they stack up to them? worse? better? opinions? thanks!

EDIT: I have searched and read a few threads on hankooks, but no direct comparisons or thoughts.

not exactly the right forum for this question, but my thoughts are: the 712's are good for civil driving. the 512's get happy reviews and seem ok, and i haven't heard anything about the hk's.

I sware by Kumho 711 for street driving. Whatever you do DO NOT get Azenis or Kumho MX for street.

i've heard a lot of good things about the yoko's, but they seem to have a lower treadwear rating.

I hate the damn ES100's. They're too sqirmy and far too easy to disrupt on anything other than perfect ground.

out of this set I'd say the Falken 512 and Kuhmo's.

I don't see any problem with the Azenis or the Kuhmo MX's for the street just realize that you're going to get around 15-20k out of them.

i used to have the kumho's... i now have the falken's
in my personal opinion the are just about equal... when it is time for new tires i will go back to the kumho because they are cheaper priced...

currently i have the Kuhmo 712's and absolutely hate them. my re92's held better with 50,000 miles then these Kuhmo's do with 10k.

when i get my next set of tires i will be getting either Azenis or potenza S03's.

wow, i've never had a tire that lasted to 50k. for me, 10k was an accomplishment!

on my last set of azenis, one pair lasted to 8k and the other pair lasted to 10k.

if my tires lasted 10k miles, i would have to change them every three months.

The only complaint I have with the 711 (or was it the 712.. damn I'll have to check) is the fact they don't squeel. My friend has them on his '01 Golf, which he has lowered, neuspeed springs, strutbar, and lower brace, on 17" rims. The thing handles extremely well, but when you're taking a hard turn or anything like that, there's no signal you're reaching the tire's limits. No squeel, howl, or anything. Next thing you know the car is starting to slide out of the turn you're trying to make it do.

Personally I like the howl because it lets me know I"m getting the tires near their limits and if I push any harder it's gonna start sliding out.

I have 712's right now w/ 18k miles on them (215-40-17). They are doing great, and I can probably get another 15k out of them pretty easily. I have not tried the hankook or falken though.

I also use azenis on my autocross car (integra). They are by far the best performance tire on the market(except for maybe the mx). Only problem is they suck in the rain, and they don't last long. I love these tires, but not for my daily driver.

Goodluck.

that's because the limit is on the low side. i was sliding all over the road with 225/50/15 kumho 711s. they just don't stick.

for me, around here atleast, the traffic isn't heavy and i can safely run azenis sports as long as i have a little bit of tread on the front and the rear can be bald. the tires were good in the rain for about 6.5k miles. you just have to pay close attention to puddles and standing water, it's not exactly an all terrain tire.

well im the ******* doing 90mph down the interstate in hail, so i guess azenis are out of the question.

what tires are there that grip cluse to them but are better in the rain? if thats even possible.

If you have to look for a rain tire you're looking at Toyo T1-S / Dunlop SP9000 / GoodYear F1 Gs-D3 as they're all great rain tires using the same design. But the compromise is that they're a little harder (not by much) than the Azenis but their sidewall is no where near as stiff.

i drove in the rain on azenis, its not that bad. if they are bald or its like a damn typhoon outside you are fuct. hydroplaning all over the damn place, gotta go like 20 mph on the freeway or youll go flying off.

i'd say either the S-03's or maybe the BFG T/A KDW comes kinda close to azenis dry, but has spectacular wet traction.
