F*cked up ringlands, cracked cyl sleeve #4...
Woo-hoo! I busted up my b18b1 pretty good.
Here is the story:
Had a turbo LS, drag3, stock everything, 6psi. Ran like that for a good 20k miles, during which she propelled me to a 13.8 in the qm, also did 2,030 miles in a weekend. Never a hesitation, never stalled, 185 compression on all 4 just before she was pulled out. Decided to sell the turbo due to financial reasons...
ended up not selling the turbo, but trading it for a 98 gsr swap w/ 45k miles, and ended up selling the b18b1 for dirt cheap. well, the motor was finally ripped apart to get rebuilt by the kid i sold it to, and what did we find?
lo and behold...i had torn apart the rings on all 4 cylinders, and sent a crack down the length of the 4th cylinder. whoopee, i aint no virgin no mo!
i can be happy about this, cause even with all the damage the car still ran like a dream, and we didn't find out about the damage till i had a new motor in my car.
the only reason i can think of that caused the damage was one time i got a bad tank of gas, and boosted pretty hard to show off to some other board members what my turbo ls could do. well, after the run, the car was sputtering, and sounding like a diesel...needless to say the car wasn't happy about the low quality gas. that was the only time the car got fugged up, which leads me to believe that it was the cause of my breaking things.
thats my story...happy boosting!!

(guess what happens when i graduate next spring and get a real job? hehe)
ps- does this mean i have to give up my status as a "turbomafia soldier"? cause i don't have a turbo anymore but definitely installed an airtex inline pump in the parking lot of my apt complex today for another board member and did a compression test to the same car, all while the cable guy was hooking up my cable modem...

The kid was/is sending it out to be resleeved as we speak anyway. And for the price i gave him on the longblock, i dont see how anyone could be mad.

Yeah funny thing; I just pulled my pistons after my little hydrolock problem - #1 rod is bent like crazy but oddly the #3 ring land is broken... #3 shouldn't have been under compression if #1 was so I'm thinking it's entirely possible the ring land had been broken for some time. Kinda scary. Oh well, got replacements on the way and we'll see how it goes.
