Default mustang gt throttle body on h22a, what year works best?

i found a few references to using the 65 mm mustang gt throttle bodies from certain years....was owndering if anyone could say what were the best years of throttle body to use? does it make a diff if it is a 88-93, 94-5 etc? i already expect to have to mod it some, just wanted to fidn the closest fit though....

I've also heard of this... but with the same sketchy details I'm afraid, so I'm no real help...

for innovation though Will...

you havent compared the prices then...$50 on ebay or from a junkyard....compare that to what STR wants for a 65mm throttle body....why spend a lot more than needed when teh same gains can be had for FAR less??

why get a 65mm, if your going to get anything get a 70mm, also you are going to have to get an adapter made to accept the mustang throttle body then re wire in the tps sensor I say there is so many more problems unless you are running a stand along and need a 80mm+ throttle body I say you are wasting your time/money just my 2 cents

i have 2 engines goign together, one turbo one all motor...both will flow more than a stock engine. i have a set of porting burrs and can open up my manifold easily...one manifold is stock and has been opened up BIG time inside, the other is an Euro-r manifold so it needs to be modded regardless.

i am not like most popel that wont use a part unless it bolts in, i wont hesitate to buy a 15 dollar sheet of aluminum and cut out adapter plates....i am also NOT willing to pay $300 for the convenience of a bolt on part when i can save a LOT and modify it myself.

its really funny how many people are so adverse to fabricating and modifying. i guess that is the difference between between people though...

i think what i need to do is hit up a pick a part yard and bring an h22 throttle body gasket, cause i bet a lot of other throttle bodies from Ford Modular engines will fit as easily.

anyway i was hoping to find someone that had don this....

I agree with you. I work in the hot rod industry but my first love is imports. Its amazing to see how lazy modifiers have become. On the cars at work and in the industry we have to make everything ourselves. You learn quickly how bad the aftermarket sucks in pricing, fit, and quality when you have to make similar parts from scratch. In any case, we have 2 4.6l gt Mustangs and a 5.0 at work. I'll take a look at them next week and take some pics of them if you want. I'd also be interested to see how well it would work.

it's been done before, it's no big secret but there is still no point, the only reason people do it is on serious foreced induction cars when you need a 80-90mm throttle body

racerx....thanks!
i am hoping i can get lucky and find a decent condition throttle body at a pick a part yard near me....i know they got ap ile of domestics, just hopefully i can find the right stuff.
anyway i do agree that it seems that a lot of import "tuners" and "racers" are lazy and want a convenient package. thats not me, i am not some guru of fabrication, i cant even weld, but if i can cut something out and modify it to fit and have it work as well for a lot less than ill do it. hell most people i deal with can understand something basic like wiring up vtec.....

and as far as there being a point....yes there is a point. a ported head, higher compression, and cams will lead to the need for more flow. 80mm is way too ******* big. 65mm will be just right, specially with everything port matched.

Actually, I recent ly saw an episode of "horse power tv"" they were dynoing an early 4.6 gt mustang(95-97, I forget exactly) and it only made like 165-170whp

[ya and the civic made like 80 hp some were around 130 w/ nos, rustangs dont wiegh that much more, like 1000 pounds more than a crx big whoop, domestics have the fastest cars srt-4 240hp, svt mustang 390 hp, viper 500 hp, corvete zo6 405 hp, honda h22 195 hp so stop doggin on them, my bone stock base model 1970 newport makes 270 hp to the wheels the top model hemi made 500 to the flywheel 35 years ago, domestic haters shut your pie whole. i like my honda because its fun mildly fast and gets good gas miledge, not because domestics suck

actually the older generation mustangs like you said the 95-97 were complete sleds, I don't doubt if they did have that power, the newer mustang gts, improved quite a bit. But either way on a N/A honda using the throttle body is still a waste of time, like even the q45 is only a true 64mm, you might as well just bore at a h22 throttle body, if you want power get a bbk simple
