Default Test your swap knowledge, major mind bender...

Ok this one has me, I need some help with this weird one...
Ok, a friend drives over to our shop in his zc powered CRX and wants to try out a different ecu on his car because he is running a 89 teg ecu. So while i am standing there he disconnects the teg ecu and tries out an 88 teg ecu to see if it is good or not. The car does not start and has no fire. So he removes the 88 ( figures its bad )and plugs in his 89 teg ecu. Now the red light is on and the Check engine light both stay on. According to the service book the ecu is dead and should be replaced?? We then try two different ecu's from cars that run and the car still has no fire? It drove in?? What just happened? Any one??? One ecu is now bad ( the one he drove in on) and none of the other will start the car???

What makes you say that? We still have fuel pressure but only when the key is in crank mode. If you turn the key on it will not prime for some reason?

sounds like the ecu is not getting a proper ground or power at some input.

replace the ecu and the hazard fuse under the hood, that may be all it is....

first of all that 88 teg ecu must be bad or the guy didnt insert the plugs in correctly and probably shorted out some pins or some hobo wiring might be the case. thus blowing at least one fuse.

it would be wise to find why it blew a fuse , before doing anymore damage.

there should be a fuse for the fuel pump too. If it is not priming on accessory, then you might check that, my brothers car did that same ****! Amazing how a little *** fuse will ruin your day

After checking the fuses, check the plugs that go to the computer. Chances are they are loose, maybe corroded.

I would also say check everything out and find out why this happened before you go any further with other ecus. Keep in mind that these - our cars do have a history for main relay problems also.
