starter question
Autozone, Kragen, and Pepboys all sell remanufactured starters and new ones which are both good for about $30-$70 dollars. Starters are a very straight forward install, only a ground and lead pretty much. Temperature shouldn't really affect the starter unless its VERY cold, I'd say ~50 and below? If your getting at it not starting, check your ground wire(Black) and your lead(red) and remember to always unplug the pos(+) cable on the battery before working with your starter. Also, if it isn't starting and you really need it to, put the key to on(With battery connected) and carefully use a screwdriver and arc the positive and negative lines on the starter and it should fire right up. Hope this helps you, peace. - Darrell
Only if you're cranking it over and over will it kill the battery... or it's seized and drawing without turning...
On the starter is a solonoid.. basically a big *** relay.
Do you get a big click from the starter when the key is turned and it just doesn't turn over? If so, the solonoid is engaging, but the motor part of it is bad. That's the only thing I can think of that's temperature related to it not working...
If you don't get a click, I think there's another relay in between the key and the solonoid that may be at fault, or your solonoid is totally dead.
Get out your $10 Radio Shack volt meter and see where the 'start' signal stops.
