Default Bad Timing Belt!! Bad, Bad, Bad!!! Stop Moving! Stop it I say!!

I have a problem. My timing belt keeps "walking" out towards the driver's side motor mount. It's done this since I put the motor in, and I cannot for the life of me figure out WTF is going on! At first, we thought it was the STR gears I had (which never slipped by the way). So he put some stock gears back in, but the problem continues. It's already eaten through one Power Enterprises Timing Belt, and is on its way through a replacement Honda OEM belt. The car runs fine. It idles fine around 750-800 (so my VAFC tells me). It pulls great, laid down 180hp, and gets around 25 miles per gallon. I can really hear it with the motor under load, throttle plate closed, and decelerating at the same time, I can hear the belt grinding on the inside of the cover.

It starts out just fine, but after about 500 miles, it has worked its way all the way over to the valve cover. And now, I have a pretty little black stripe inside my valve cover, and some fun black plastic dust gathering at the bottom of my lower timing cover from the plastic being burned off the upper timing cover by the belt.

My Honda Tech Buddy told me it could be part no. 24 in diagram of the timing belt and balancer betl (i cannot find it on the internet yet, but i will post when i do)<pic>

What do you guys think?? This is my only form of transportation, and I need to get it fixed ASAP. And I only have a couple max days of downtime at any time. Any ideas?

Iakona

who installed the Timing Belt? They missed a piece.

There is a "washer" that goes on the crank snout after the Timing belt gear which holds the belt in place.

I'd bet $20 it's missing.

Is it a manual tensioner? There's an 11mm washer that a lot of people forget and it eats timing belts if you don't put it on

i run the auto tensioner

so, without this "washer", everything would seem normal, but my problem would persist?

so jeff, would i be able to pull the part number from the guy at the Honda Parts counter? and how bad>horrible is it to install?
