took the Accord on a road trip....
well, i drove down to Cedar Point (about 2 1/2 hrs away) to kick off the summer....and then the **** hit the fan, somewhat.....
1/2 way there, i noticed the temp gauge was on the rise, so popped down all the widows, and turned heat up to help disapate heat out off the block, and it returened to normal temp....
when we arrive, the parking lot attendant is like "you go something on your wheel"....i look down to see the front passenger side splash guard holding on by a thread, all crammed into my wheel....of course my filter was thus siting 4" off the ground without any protection, and of course rain was in the forecast......
luckily, we got home safely, but the whole overheating **** happened again, and again, heat + windows was the solution (no windows + 75mph = teh ****)
what level is considered "overheating", or "above normal" when it comes to operating temp....my needle got within a mm or two of the midline before i caught it.....i have no clue as to the history of the car's thermostat, and i know its been over a year since coolant was an "issue"....
also, im lazy, so if u can post up those websights for OEM parts, so i can feel safe about driving my car ASAP
if i get around to it, ill post up pics of my gnarled splash guard, for your viewing pleasure
EDIT: no stickers yet Vr....

Well I have a 1993 Accord and normally it looks like this:

However on the return trip from LA, coming up over the mountains in the 119 degree heat with the A/C on and when I say it was a BIG hill I mean I had to have it in 4th to hold 60 MPH.... anyhow this is how it looked, never went any higher but that was the first time in the 7 years I've owned this car that it has ever moved from the first picture above.

LOL. That painting ownz everything!
Anyway, If that's all it was over, then I think you're fine, unless it keeps on progressively getting hotter.

im not worried about engine damage or anything....im just wondering if i need new fluid (which i guess ill do as soon as my friend gets home from FLA, cause hes got a pan to flush it into, and im lazy
) or if my thermostat is bad (i have no clue if its the origional one, but i know they are prone to just going bad out of nowhere....)....i know this may sound newbish, but ive never taken an auto-tech class, and really suck when it comes to routine vehicle maintence
im just not gonna drive it till i can get a new splash guard, which looks like ill have to get the whole new wheel well lining if i wanna get it online.....oh well

heres a pic of the carnage......this is viewed as if your looking at the front bumper of the car...aka, those vent looking slits in the foreground are where the filter sits, and the back is what wraps around the wheel well

it was held on by about 12 zip ties.....so i guess those DO fail over time......

i don't have either one of those on my car, but frankly i'm not too worried about it...i'm using the stock intake though minus the resonator...just keep away from puddles and try to avoid wet days...i know it sucks, but hey...what can ya do

NEVER!!
flush it every two year with 50/50 coolant and distilled water, it's good time to check all the clamps while you at it.

im god at MS paint</TD></TR></TABLE>
If thats all it went up I wouldn't worry all that much...it COULD have been the plastic piece under your car not allowing heat get out or create heat by rubbing
. I would flush your radiator and go from there
Looks like you did a little DIY weight reduction

i believe most hondas like to stay a tick or 2 below the middle (temperature gauge wise)
Good idea for turning on the heater, not many people know this little trick, but it does wonders

werd to that.....i learned that trick from my buddy, whose rx7 liked to overheat everytime he drove it...and thats w/ a new thermostat and aluminum koyo radiator....
like i said, im not worried about damage or anything, i just dont like worring about the simple ****.......
maybe im a *****, but i refuse to drive it untill i get my new splash guard (ordered last night).....even though hydrolocking would be a good excuse for some DOHC action..........

haha your 'yesterday' picture is pretty much where mine is all the time... maybe ever so slightly lower. btw I've had no splash guard for probably close to 2 years with a cai and no problems. some of that time i had no filter either.
i would think that around half way is normal.

Possibly one of the dumbest things I've ever read on this board...do you know what kind of dust and dirt most likely went into your engine? Do you know what that dust and dirt does when it is in there? Baaaad things man....use your head.
And 200k? BAH! 249k here!

yeah, i have a 99 accord, but in my moms 97, the needle is at your "yesterday" all the time, i think since it was new. Also she lost both of her front splash guards too. They just ripped off. haha. As someone else said, homemade weight reduction.
