Default lower ball joint nut came loose...

yeah, so i was heading up to a stop sign and as soon as i stopped. boom! tire kinda like fell off. the reason why im bringing this subject up is im curious to know your opinions on why? i found the lower ball nut acually laying underneath my car which pretty much made my suspension cave in, snapped an axle, and well bent the fender in a lil cuz of all the pressure of it sitting on my tire. there was no trace of a cotter pin which i believe was the problem. but what was so weird about it, is the shop that did it had all new cotter pins in because they put energy suspension bushing in for me. we noticed that it has an akward stripping of the threads on the lower ball joint. anyone know the cause of this? hit me up with some ideas. its a mystery to me and well. could of killed me if i was going at higher speeds. im just grateful everyone was ok and well. grateful the shop is fixing everything at no charge.

shop could have killed you. no cotter pin on that ball joint almost always = seperation. Tell them not to smoke so much weed the next time they install your ****.

yeah i did get very lucky. very lucky indeed. the kid that was working on my suspension there, well isnt working there at the moment. but the thing is im not blaming anyone because well. i really cant prove it. either there was no cotter pin at all, or well from the ball joint threads being somehow stripped? either way it = bad things.

good luck. i would bring your car to the shop, show them what happened, and have them pay for your repairs at whatever shop you choose. dont let insurance catch wind of this.

cotter pin could have been installed improperly and thus fell/broke off too. Or the nut wasn't torqued down properly to begin with. lots of possibilities, sucks to hear it happened though

ehh. oh well now. car is back on the road and well. better than ever i guess. the shop replaced the lower ball joint and made sure everything was right. even replaced the upper-ball joint. rides well straighter than ever. i can do easy 100 and perfectly straight. as before it leaned because the ball joints had play in the sockets. as for the cosmetics ( crushed in fender from holding up cars weight) just gotta shop around and there shop insruance should be paying for it. oh by chance? how much would it be for a new fender and paint job? just out of curiousity? later
