Default I need the loudest CAI and the quietest catback.....

As the title states, I am looking for the loudest cai and the quietest catback. I love the sound of a air being sucked into the manifold, but am not a big fan of the "fart pipe" sound, but still want the performance of a good catback exhaust. I have a stock 90 rs and want these two mods to be the first done to the car. So, give me some recommendations guys.

I am not sure but it is very difficult to use the J's intake on that specific application, I know because I tried. I would go with a Short ram with a very good filter and go with maybe the HKS Hi-per, or RS*R, I am not sure if A'PEXi makes one for the DA chassis.

yeah i have the j's its def loud and i love it, if you post a pic of your engine bay i can tell you whether or not i think it would fit, it takes up more room than say an aem cai/short ram, but its def possible, as far as the exhaust goes, just make sure you have the longest resonator possible in there, that will keep it a whole lot more quiet

I was looking on ebay and saw that there are many generic types of cai's and sri's for way cheaper that one made by AEM. If I just got one of those instead would I really be missing out on that much of a hp increase? Also, what is the "rsr" exhaust? Who makes it?

Short ram intakes like the J's are def loud as stated above..for exhaust, any high flowing exhaust will make some noise, just some are louder then others, ESPECIALLY those without resonators.. put a resonator on to tone it down some.. i built my own exhaust.. Mandrel bent from the turbo back, no cat, but i do have a resonator and a magnaflow muffler, its boomy sounding but not raspy at all

You want a loud intake, then build some individual throttle bodies!

Howser or anyone with the Apexi Worldsport,
Is it raspy at all at high RPM's?
Which is quieter, the RSR or the Apexi WS?

Thanks,

Junior

for exhaust i would go with a hytech exhaust. It is custom made and will give about 20 extra horse power. The only problem is that the exhaust is $2000 dollars with their special header. It is a twin loop exhaust so it is very quiet but it offers the flow of a straight through muffler

$2000 for an exhaust !!! Most integra owners can't afford $650 on an exhaust.

I'd rather spend:

$500 on RsR Exhaust
$300 on Skunk2 intake manifold
$100 on a High flow cat
$300 on AEM v2
$250 on CTR intake cam
$450 on springs and retainers

And then with the hundred bucks leftover, I'd buy new cd's to jam out on while going for the joy ride.

But thats my penny pinching biased opion based strictly on cost.

Sorry for wandering off the topic there.

br1ev8,

I haven't purchased enough intakes to know which is the loudest, but I can give a good recommencation on exhausts if you want something quiet, free flowing, good looking, jdm and cheap.

I purchased a cheap full catback exhaust for my 1994 civic hatch, removed the rear section, and replaced it with a jdm civic sirII muffler. Sounds awesome! Really quiet, even with a straight pipe!

Investment is about $300 for the catback, and $100 for the jdm muffler, plus you can sell the rear section of the catback on ebay for a little bit back. Excellent investment for under $400. I wish I had a .wav file so you could hear it.

I highly recommend!

with 2 grand you piece together a nice turbo kit....i think that would get you a bit more than the 20 hp that exhaust would give you

Ok, so it sounds like the rsr is the pick for quiet exhaust and just any short ram intake for a loud intake. Thanks for all ya'lls input!
