'90 Accord burning lots of oil, 1 litre every 1000 Km, how long will it last???
I just bought an EXR with 160,000 Km. Way under milage for a '90. Has been burning a litre every 1,000 Km. How long will it last? Can this engine be rebuilt?
Will changing the rings be worth it?

well is the car burning the oil or is it leaking?
do a compresion test and go from there.
my first honda burned oil and it lasted a while.
u can rebuild the engine but it will cost u about $1500. do the math and see if its worth it.
or u can swap the engine for a vtec one which will cost u about $2300 only for the engine and the parts that u will need + the labor if someone is swaping it for u.
the engine will have about 40k in it. so it will be worth the money.

my 92 Ex doesnt burn the oild besides what leaks on the block.... i have a leak in my cam seal and the seals around the spark plugs... im debateing and saving to either fix it or swap in an H22.....
My moms volvo has lasted along time and it loses oil like crazy. She loses so much oil she probably never needs an oil change because i have to add so much so often
as long as you dont drop a bolt in the oil filler and remember to add oil when it burns it you should be golden for a while, 160km=96k miles, thats not bad.

I had the same problem on my 97 ex it had 160,000 on it before it started to burn the oil, i did rebuild the engine in my automotive class. it wasn't hard didn't pay much for the parts. well under $800 dollars to do. When I pulled the head i noticed there was still cross hatch on the cylinder walls and no visual wear. I didn't use any exspensive oil just what ever i could afford at the time. most of the time it was castrol 5w 30. I did notice that the oil rings were worn, so I went ahead and replaced all rings, bearing and gaskets the kit even came with all intake manifold gaskets and at the last minute bought new pistons. All of this was for a grade so I measured everything. Engine runs better than new, I never thought a honda could run any smoother! definitly made all the ford guys jealous, of how well the car ran, after I was done. may sell engine when I get my new H22, have pics and all measurments if you want them of the build.
