Default Aem V2 Cold air '98

i did a forum search, no topics. Ok, went to an import shop, the guy suggested a injen CAI or a V2, I can get a V2 on ebay for 238 shipped. And what about a bypass valve? Is it neccesary? He said he would get me the injen for 280. I think the V2 is better, but I just want to make sure before I spend my money because i have none. Any help would be appreciated. oh yea one more thing, I found a front strut bar on ebay for 10$$, it seems like a piece, but metal is metal right? what you think should i just get it cause its 10$$?

save your money and get a cheap cai and use the extra$$$ to get pulleys.

cheap cai+pulleys>aem cai

"cheap cai + pulleys"...why wouldn't i just get the good V2, and the good pulleys. I'm not going to cheap out on my car, 200$$ is nothing compared to how much it costs and I was asking about the injen intakte too. Anyway does anyone know anything about the bypass valve if it works for the v2? Most posts would be very helpful Thanks

a cold air is a cold air.....how much difference can there be from pipe to pipe....the only important part is the filter...i got my cold air off of ebay for like 20 bux...it was like 35 shipped...and it gave me more power and sounds good....and then with the extra money get pullies and if you want a k & n filter...

Anyone else suggest I cheap out on my cold air? The reason why I thought the v2 is so good is because on the aem site it shows the dyno benifets and supposedly the best cai you can buy. Thanks

maybe its just me....but w/e....v2 is still a short ram and wouldn't bring in cooler air the a cold air....i think the only thing it does it sound louder, and you get the impression that its more effective....it can't possibly bring in cooler air then a cai....and we all know that cooler air is denser.....which will end up making more power....i dunno....sounds like commen sense to me...if if dyno's prove it then whatever..

It uses the "bouncing" of the air to create a suction like action to draw in more air as AEM says. But i would only get it because it improves the power that's needed for daily driving.

even if it was 9 inch diameter....its still gonna go into the same size throttle body...but it can have more midrange power...

looking for the dyno now...

so lets say you buy the v2....over a ebay cai....you ger 1-2 extra horses, big deal.....if you get a crank pulley with the money you saved on ebay, you'll make wayy more power then that.....just not worth the extra 20 bones to me

Don't go cheapo on ur car it's not a civic. There's nothing I hate more than seeing obx everything on a 20k prelude. Just get the regular aem intake it does the same thing and its cheaper then get some aem tru time pulleys. Don't skimp on your car like all these other guys suggest.

if you want to get a cheap ebay intake, and want it to perform as well as a aem cai, just go to ur local car part store and pick up a universal k&n filter. buying a aem cai vs ebay intake will yield you maybe 1hp top end. will you even notice that? buy whatever intake you want, just make sure it has a good filter

does aem make a super pipe? wtf a pipe is a pipe....get ebay!!!!!!! with k&n filter...i garantee you'll either A get just as much power or even more.....you can also wrap it up with exhaust wrap....i plan on doing that to mine in about a week or so...and get the pullies....don't spend over 200 bux on a damn pipe....don't do it to yourself...

a pipe is a pipe is a pipe.....AEM=ebay

theyre both aluminum. only diff. is that ones cheaper. im not saying go cheap on your car by any means. im just saying dont waste your money on an aem pipe. ebay pipe+good filter is all you need. this is probably the only area that i would go cheap on.

Well...Technically the v2 isnt just a pipe. But another problem would be getting a bypass valve, I don't want water killing my car that I just spent the last 3 years of my life saving up for just because I bought a cheap *** intake. You guys do pose a good point though. I wish I knew more but what are the gains on the aem underdrive pulleys?

Thanks again

I bought the V2 for my 95 lude. I can feel a little difference, but it sounds so much nicer than the cai in my opinion.

i have an ebay and the aem pulleys
i deff, noticed a diff. with the pulleys. id say around 7-10hp gain depending on your setup.

and you can put a bypass on the ebay pipe

So basically I just buy the 30$$ crappy cai off of ebay and put an k&n filter on it. Which would cost about 50$$ total, or around there before getting screwed by shipping. I still like the V2 idea because its AEM and its for sure not just an expensive POS, at least it will do something, and it supposedly does better than the CAI model, but if its a short ram how? I am however going the air induction route. thanks again for all your help.

True. That means that getting headers, and catback exhaust would be kinda useless until i get the turbo, which is why I want to get a really good intake because thats one of the only things I can get besides pulleys and a few other parts. As long as it runs better than the old aem CAI I think im gogin with the v2

if you plan to stay N/A the V2 would be a good investment. However, I do recommend getting a Comptech Ice Box setup I do not know if they offer this for the prelude.
