vafc help
i need to know if i can just tap into the oil pressure sensor on the back of the block for a non-vtec to v-tec swap on a 91 civic si- heres the setup
91 civic hb si
92 civic d16 vtec swap
91 si non vtec ecu
vafc
i need to get the vtm wire and i'm finised i just dont know how to get a proper signal
also , will this thing engage vtec on its own without a signal from the ecu ?
and lastly, on the solenoid for vtec there's 3 plugs
1 comes from the plunger looking device w/1 pin
the other is on the solenoid itself with 2 pins , is this solenoid input and ground or something else
thanks for the help in advance

I have a very similar swap except I don't have the VAFC. I'm just using the autometer rpm switch. But I'm only using the One wire to activate VTEC and not the one with 2 pins. I bought the car like this about a month ago so I'm not 100% sure if this is the right way to do this. ¿¿
Oh. I forgot to help you on your question. If I'm not mistaken you just have to run the VTM wire from the VAFC to the one pin on the silenoid. Then just set the VTEC engagement to what you want. One the VAFC reaches the pre-determined point, then it will send the 12V to the silenoid and activate VTEC.
so your just running off the plug actually coming out of the plunger looking part of the solenoid?
the vtm is the oil pressure signal input
vto is vtec out
i need to know if i have to have a vtec input signal also or if it will just engage from a rpm signal
thanks -

i have installed a fields vtec controller into my civic using my non vtec ecu. You dont need to run the input wire, but you will have to run the vtec wire from the controller straight to the soleniod, im pretty sure the vafc has the reqiured 12 volts the ativate the soleniod, my fields does. if you want to be sure, do that test using a 12 volt light. i have instructions to wire that controller to a pm7 (nonvtec) ecu if you want em. the problem with using that ecu is the fuel mapping, its different, other than that, it should be ok. Rj-SiHatchy,
I'm trying to wire a Fields SFC-Vtec controller on my 89 civic si with non-vtec ECU. Can you send me the instructions on wiring it up? thanks

theres the link. I think you were working on your minime about the same i started on mine, hows yours feeling? Mine is pretty good, runs pretty strong and vtec is pretty cool. I kept up with my friends b16a hatch. The one and only problem im running into is that distributor crap, its perfect and all but i have a constant oil leak from that same place, i lose a bunch of oil everytime i drive, anyone else run into this problem?

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out. My mini-me feels pretty good. I definitely felt a difference in power. Not huge, but a difference. Right now I have a toggle switch to activate VTEC which I getting sick of. I need to hurry up and wire the controller. It sounds like the oil seal is bad on the distributor. Good luck. Let me know if you get any 1/4 mile times.
