Default Fluctuating tach

93 Accord LX coupe. Car starts up and idles fine - until I get to my first red traffic light of the day - typically within a quarter of a mile. When I do, the idle will drop from about 1600 to 1300 (estimated), then bounce back up to 1600, and will do this every second or so. This repeats for about 20-30 seconds, then it just levels out fine. It won't do it again all day after that. Doesn't see to matter what the weather is.

Ideas?

Thanks in advance,
John

i would say, first check your vacuum hoses.

secondly, have you changed your cap and rotor yet? how many miles on the car? i know something similar happened to me 2 years ago, where the car would idle wierd, and would sometimes die on me. i ended having to replace distributor cap and rotor.

Have not checked the hoses. Will do. Cap and rotor were replaced last summer and the problem has existed longer than that. Mileage: 164k.

yea, i'd check all vacuum lines. sometimes if you have a loose line, your tach can fluctuate a lot.

Have you checked your coolant level ..be sure the block is burped via the 12mm bleed screw at the T-stat housing..Be sure there is slack in the throttle cable at the throttle body, it is not the idle adjustment..... Then open the fast idle valve top [2 phillips screws]and turn the adjusting screw down a couple turns....

you know what .......i just took off my intake and there was what looked like a hole in the throtle....i put my finger over it and the idle went normal.....cause mine was bouncing between 900 and 1500.....it looks like a vacum leek i guess but not sure.....sprayed some carb cleaner and the problem went away for about a day and a half.....any ways look inside
were the intake hooks up to the throtle...
