Does BETTER gas make a difference?
OK...here's the deal. I just bought a 2004 Accord V6. I'm a firm believer in using the higher octane gas in all of my cars...92 Octane from Sunoco...yes I know there's 94 Octane but don't want to go overboard. I've always felt that I was running a smoother, better performing car by doing so...at the very least, a cleaner running car. With the recent gas price surge, I decided to cut back to 87 octane until prices come back down. In doing so, I noticed a decrease in performance.....the V6 feels like it has lost its kick. Am I dreaming?
With out giving too much away, I asked a couple of friends of mine from work their thoughts on using "cheaper" gas....they also like to drive their cars with enthusiasm. The reply I got matched my thoughts. Are we all imagining this?
Anybody?
Thanks much.

well most accords are designed to run off 87, i am not sure what the compression is on the 04 v6, but i know all the accords in the past actually run better on 87. just run whatever octane the manual tells you.
Tes you are just imagining that...if using 93 octane really made your car faster dont you think more people would use it? Your car is designed for 87 octane and will fun best off that, you are just wasting money if you use anything more...
Heres how the Gas game works , If your car requires 87 octane gas and you have no performance upgrades Turbo etc , using 91 , 0r 92 octane will not help change the performance of the engine . The extra octane will not help at all , the engine is engineered to run on 87 octane . The game is 89 octane is a through away gas , created by the Oil Companies , as their highest markup gasoline , so if you buy it and your engine doesn't need it YOUVE WASTED YOUR MONEY, and the OIL COMPANIES have made there largest profit of any gas they sell . It's all marketing . Now buying a brand name gas is usually a good idea, because they usually have the best ADDITIVES in the GAS, so this makes sense to pay a few extra cents for , as todays cars are very sensitive to Contamination. JUST USE THE GRADE (OCTANE) THAT THE AUTO MANUFACTURER CALLS FOR, AND THE ENGINE WILL PERFORM EXACTLY AS DESINGED.
