Default WETSANDING just finished, now what do I do? Hands only

Grabbed a stack of 800 grit sheets and a few spray bottles with water and a little dish shop and went to town. Did the job just fine and its a glass finish now

But after washing all the dry soap away the car looked amazing, when it dried though, it looks dull and colorless. Is this supposed to happen?

What do I do if it is? Do we just apply wax over top with the car dry and it will look perfect after? or will the dullness still be there? Tips?

Ive never waxed a car before and its going to have to be by hand, just going to grab some turtle wax with the little sponge on top, Im assuming you just wipe some wax on the small sponge and apply to car and swirl gently tl you cant see it anymore? Tips?

Thanks for any help

Time to buff now. Go get the 3M compound and a buffer. Yay...

YES!

you broke down the clear coat layer. Now you need to pick up a bottle of 3m rubbing compound and start buffing away. Pick up a Dewalt Polisher. http://www.dewalt.com/us/produ...D=174
and some pads from your paint shop and go at it. It will get messy.

hmm well I dont have a hundred bucks to throw at a orbital one, this time will have to be by hand.

So I need to use compound as well and then wax?

Ive never used compound before, can anyone give me a good way to do it by hand? And a good brand name?

THanks

you should have asked these questions before you wet sanded your car. your going to have a hell of a time buffing by hand after you sanded with 800 grit paper. you should have used 2000. when i use 2000 paper it takes a few applications with a buffer to bring back the shine with a course compound, then you have to use a lighter compound and then a lighter one depending on the color of your car, and then glaze it. all i can say is good luck. steal a buffer if you can.

well like i said.. that what it does. It smooths out the clear coat and looks like that. use compound, then use any wax you like. Most places that do perfect paint job dont need to go through this step. it's just more work. Get the car painted good the first time and dont deal with it. That's why i want my car painted by Dupont specialist at my work place

Rubbing compound takes out roughness... makes the finish smooth. Make sure you get Fine cut rubbing compound though.

How are compounds applied though, do I just put some on the orbital buffer and go to town?

I cant find a thing on a page to explain this to me

how come you made a new thread? do what me and others said. buff it with 3m rubbing compound. Your crappy autozone would be the best choice for polish. THEY SUCK!!!!

when wetsanding, its not neccessary but looks better to go to 2000. Then you pull out the buffer, then buff it. A good idea would be to go ask a detailing shop where they get their buffers from or at least ask what kind they use. I havent started buffing yet at work so i havent handled the buffer much so i dont really remember looking at the brand of it but i'll check tomarrow
