Help with a Si timing belt..
OK i just searched and everyone that has posted was for swaped engines and such. But i remember someone posting a very useful link about the Si timing set up..i kinda remember it but i'm sure that if i do it wrong then my engine will be in worse condition..so does anyone have anything to help me out?
You just want to change your timing belt?????
Put motor at tdc, line up cranksahft notch with arrows on timing belt coverAnd check to see if the cam gear is lined up with teh marks too at the same time, if not, just roatate crankshaft until they are, just make sure both are lined up at the same time. Then remove teh crankshaft pulley bolt, trick as part, i left my car on wheel ramps, put it in 5th, hit the brakes, and used a 3 fott breaker bar with my foot, does the trick. Once that off, and you also removed the alternator belt,, double check your still lined up on the pulleys, then pull the crank pully off, loosen timing belt tensioner, not off, just a few turns loose, pull off timing belt, chenge water pump while your in there, jsut a few 10mm bolts, then put new belt on, loosely, makig sure not to turn teh crank or cam gear, i suggest just putting it on, then throwing the crank pulley on there, snug up the bolt, then work at teh cam gear side, getting the belt on, a little tricky, but should just slide on. Once on, double check your marks are lined up again, then start tightening things, including the tensioner, while putting pressure on teh crankshaft pulley, counterclockwise, this will tighten the belt up evenly on both sides of the pulleys.
Dont forget to remove the timing belt cover after you get the crank pulley bolt off, forgot to mention this., This takes me about 30 minutes to do, its pretty easy, and i just typed this off the top of my head, so dont flame me if i left anything out....
