Default comptech vs toda header...

i was actually comparing the two, and i'd be able to get a much much better price on the comptech header as opposed to the toda...so far, plus one for the comptech. and i also like the idea that its carb exempt so i dont have to worry about the long arm of the law, plus two...comptech. but as far as gains...how are they really between the two. i know the headers dont really net much of a gain on stock vehicles but net more on vehicles w/ i/h/e and engine management.

so in synopsis...how does the comptech compare to the toda header?

toda makes more midrange torque/hp when tuned with standalone or when run with a mugen ecu.

really...how many dynos have you seen of each header? and have you seen a direct comparison. i'm really leaning toward a comptech even if the toda makes a few more ponies/tq. for two reasons 1) carb sticker 2) warrany issues. there have been some people that when buying JDM products run into big warranty loops Example: "you didn't buy from our authorized dealer...so, we will not warranty anything even if it really is a faulty product" (good example tein). but...check out this thread, kinda makes you think twice about a toda header http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/...=toda

If you're seeking a carb sticker, why are you even considering the toda header? A header is a header. I don't need a carb sticker, I don't need to worry about warrenty issues, the welds on the toda are well done and I don't see it rusting. Other than that, it's a racing product, most of the time, there aren't warrenties on racing parts. That's just my opinion, but since you fear smog laws and such, it should be a no brainer that you're looking at smog exempt headers.

If you feel a broken bracket, IMO is not a big deal, justify's a 4 page thread on how toda sucks and they don't know crap about headers and how everyone should steer clear from their headers proves anything, good for you. The header still performs at the top and that's something few manufactuers can match.

If you've forgotten or didn't know, comptech had issues with the first batch of supercharger brackets. They cracked. Now, a friend of mine that bought a comptech supercharged s2000 from a dealership had his head removed for porting. It was then realized that the SC bracket was cracked. When he tried to have comptech warrenty the bracket, they would not as he wasn't the original owner and comptech offerred a terrific deal of $500 for a new bracket. My friend had given comptech a lot of business, enough business to justify an exception to their policy, but that was not the case. I'm only speaking of a warrenty experience about comptech to dispell the myth that most companies can't make everyone happy while making a profit.

whats the point of this post?

sounds like you have already made your decision.

i.e. comptech is carb exempt, better price and your warranty thread.

buy the comptech.....

im pretty sure you cant go wrong with either one

pplease...read before posting.
1) i never ONCE said i was looking for a header that had a carb sticker. i simply said...that was one of the things that i liked about the comptech. never said it was a deciding factor.
2) i never said that the broken bracket justifies the thread. i'm just saying thats its another example of a company that decides not to warranty its products. and you can't use the excuse that "its a racing product, how do you warranty that" because @ least 80% of the parts thats people bolt on to their cars are for sports or racing purposes. Any company that says it wont warranty its equipment because its racing equipement is seriously one i'd have to think twice about purchasing from.

but really, i never said a warranty or a carb sticker were the deciding points on buying a header....but really two of the points in a long list of criteria that help you pick a good product.

we'll go back to the start, if you want a header proven to make the most hp in a tuned NA application, get the toda. If you have other concerns regarding the toda, don't get it. There's no grey area here, it's very black and white. As far as that bracket breaking/cracking/malfunctioning, I don't see the header falling apart b/c of it. It gives extra support but nothing worthy of stressing over. As far as the warrenty issue goes, if your flanges fall off or the header rusts and breaks, then a warrenty is necessary but I don't see how you could factor in a warrenty as an issue for headers. There isn't a reason I can find that worthy one to worry about one header having a warrenty and one that doesn't besides the header being damaged in shipping in which case the shipper takes responsibility for that.

Toda is a big company, as others and they make racing parts. Once you start tinkering around cars for awhile in track/offroad/racing applications, you'll soon learn that warrenties will only cover defects from the factory before use. Once you use it, you should have done enough research to know the product you're getting performs well and doesn't have any catastrophic failures or flaws that lead to it's demise. I don't see any flaws in the toda header that prove otherwise.

lots of this is true. but to give an answer to your statement...."There isn't a reason I can find that worthy one to worry about one header having a warrenty and one that doesn't besides the header being damaged in shipping in which case the shipper takes responsibility for that." anything that i spend a thousand dollars on, which isn't really chump change to me by the way, and spend 2-4 hours installing on my car, i want to know that it'll work worry free...well, for years n' years n' years. if anything does happen, there's no way i wanna drop another 1k to get it taken care of. Lets play here...if the header works great for a year...and then, there's a leak in the header...dude to bad welds made. (basically a defective header) i would certainly hope that it will be replaced. If not...i would be VERY upset. very very upset infact. If i bought the skunk2 cams which i had been looking to go w/ for my old b series, and they cracked say....after 6 months, even when properly and professionaly installed...i woulda be well, upset. i dont care if they're racing cams, i'd be very upset...do u know what i mean?

but really...all this talk of warranties and such is really nonsense, because that wasn't the point of my post. the point of my post was really...to compare the toda and the comptech. vapor, like you've said...the toda will make more power. you've said this a few times now, but i think i asked before (but haven't seen) to see some dynos comparing similar setups, or if....luckily someone has it a direct comparison. my saving really between the two (in cost) would be about 250 bucks. if the difference between the two is say toda +2 hp avg between 5-8...then i honestly dont think that's worth it. 2 hp for 250 bucks. sorry if i'm being so wordy, or posting so much...but i guess i'm just looking for clear cut answers when there aren't any available....yet
