I'm about to start buying stuff to paint my car, what will i need?
After researching i think i'll be able to do a pretty good job of painting my car, better than Econo or Maaco,
Anyways, what will i need?
Compressor
Hose
HVLP gun
any recommendations as to what brand?
also, what about the paint. I want to paint it silverstone metallic.
Peace

You better be rich!
-First and foremost, you need proper safety equipment. Shoot Suit, Box of gloves, respirators and dust masks, goggles etc..
-I recommend a BC/CC urethane paint system for beginers but they are very toxic. It requires the use of a FRESH AIR SUPPLIED RESPIRATOR, not a filtered mask! Prices for this type of repirator starts at $350+. However, BC/CC should not be applied over laquer paints...including those cheap *** spray canned paints/primers.
-The spray guns will depend on your budget and the type of paint you will be spraying. If on a budget like me, I use the Develbiss Finishline 3 which is one of the best for a budget gun. 1.3mm tip for the BC/CC and 1.5/1.8mm tip for primers. Aslo get an air dryer for the compressor as well as a filter bulb for the spray gun.
The best guns in the market(higher cost) are SATA and IWATA. There are others but these are most popular.
-You'll need lots of paper towels and Laquer thinner for paint clean up
-Wax and grease remover
-sand paper
-Mixing buckets with mixing ratio indicators, paint strainers, mixing sticks
-Red and Gray 3M Scuff pads
-Tack cloths
-other stuff but I can't think of them right now
Now the lowdown on paint:
-Epoxy Primer(regular, not sealer) for bare metal surfaces
-Primer Surfacer, ONLY IF you need to level out the surface
-Epoxy Primer Sealer(sealer is not intended for bare metal), Use a sealer if you want but you don't really have to. It really depends on the surface you are spraying on.
-BC(base coat) color with appropiate reducers and or hardeners. Take into consideration of the temperature to select the proper speed. 1 gallon of ready to spray/all ready mixed paint will cover the exterior of the car(3-4 coats) 2+ coats needed for proper coverage
-CC(clear coat)
with appropiate reducers and or hardeners. Take into consideration of the temperature to select the proper speed. 1 gallon of ready to spray/all ready mixed paint will cover the exterior of the car(3-4 coats) 2+ coats needed for proper coverage
How to paint you might ask? Don't do it if you don't know how!
Then you'll need Buffing materials/tools. Lots of more stuff!
no matter how much money you spend on higher end equipment, ALL IN ALL, nothing beats knowledge, practice, research, safety, and patience when it comes to painting.
