Default it can be done, i will prove it

hey whats up i am currently building a d16y8, now i have read a bunch of topics on pistons, ive heard many differant topics. now i have heard many differant views on d15b7 pistons in a d16y8 yet no one has done it. well i am, many of you guys say no some say it will work and some dont know for sure, well its going to work. ive done the math and everything says yes. cheap high comp.
i was wondering if any body has done this in a d16y8. let me know any info coments what ever, it would be greatly appreciated.

D Series internals are interchangeable so D15B7 pistions in a D16 would work. Now how much power youll make is another story. And theres some calculators out there that you could measure the compression ratio of it. Have fun and have dyno numbers in the end. Enjoy your cookie

I've heard of one person doing it (PM3 pistons in a D16)...It certainly won't be done in a Y8 with a stock headgasket i'll tell you that much...do you even know why they won't fit in? Or are you just talking out of your ***?

It's not the problem that no one done it (I bet you someone did if it's possible, d-series.org if you can't find no one here), it's more of the problem that you might actually hit the pistons in TDC. I'm not totaly sure but I know that you can't use a combination of some rods and pistons because the combination will be too big.

Do your reaserch first (try all motor or d-series.org all motor threads) because you might realize that you did something stupid and it won't work.

no i am not talking out of my ***. all the math says yes, the bore of the two motors is exactly the same, the rods are differant, but if you swap the pistons between the two you wont have to worry about that. now i wont smack the valves because A on compression all valves are closed, B the d15 pistons have deep vavle reliefs, the only reason i am doing this is because i just hydrolocked my DOHC ZC, yea. so anywayi know the compression will be anywhere between 11-1 to 11.5 to one. and stock headgasket, right stock 3 piece metal what else would you use???? headgasket thickness wont matter in deck height. so NO i am not talking out of my ***. it can be done and i am gonna prove it

yea well you cant do much if your crank and pistons and rods are sitting at a machine shop right now, i am as far as i can go i am waiting on the shop to finish. so dont worry it will be done, ill post and let you guys know how it turns out, oh and if any body has a stock manual p28 ecu laying around i am very very interested, so let me know

you say you've done the math but the piston to deck height is different, along with the piston pin location. if you put those d15 pistons on d16rods/crank/block they will most likely stick out of the more then you'd want. when you put d16 pistons in a non vtec d15 rod/crank/block set up you get the opposite, the d16 pistons sit too low in the hole.

look into the geometry of the d15 (non vtec) vs the d16. piston pin height, piston-deck height, physical deck height, rod length, crank stroke, all different. even the rod journal area is different.

Just get domed d16a1 pistons and call it a day.

Yeah it will be called "how to be a dumbass and destroy your motor trying to do it the cheap way"

I mean I don't know too much about building a D series with stock pistons so that what I was talking about. The d15 pistons usually are little taller so with d16 crank and rods it might smack the head.

FACT: The D15 non-vtec pistons have a wrist pin location 3mm lower than the D16 pistons

FACT: If you put these in a D16Z6 or D16Y8 using a stock head gasket, they WILL smash into the head and destroy your motor.

FACT: civic4door95 does NOT know what he is talking about

you are 110% corect. you can use d16 pistons in a d15 if you use vx rods but to use d15 pistons in a d16 you would have to have custom made shorter rods.

Props to your attitude but you're really just doing the opposite of what you should. albeit a taller piston height/lower pin location will result in higher compression, but you'll have to get 3mm shorter rods made... which makes the less than favorable rod ratio situation in the D series even worse. still, if you think that you're really smart and want to prove that it can be done (not dissing) then why don't you put clay-test the pistons in the engine. put some playdoh in the cylinders and rotate the crank manually (if the engine is out of the car use a big wrench on the crank pulley.) None would be the wiser. Nothing wrong or dumb about being a little more cautious, right?

D16A6/D16A1 pistons are just as plentiful and cheap as D15 pistons and would work much better, don't you think? Yeah, you know it, man.

If you want to have crazy high compression and be unique... get yourself a set of civic GX pistons. The GX was designed to run on natural gas and the pistons are pretty beefy looking. they'll have much higher compression than the D15.

FACT: BauleyCivic is 100% right..............

but who knows... maybe a person with Z3 fenders in his sig. could finally be right for a change.?

Great kiddo. Have fun proving your point and making an extra 8whp.

In the meantime, I'll be making close to 200whp on my stock D16Y8 with a worthwhile power-adder (*cough*turbo*cough*).

cheap low compression. once you blow your motor the compression wont be so high.

im not saying it wont work, im just saying i would NEVER put "cheap" and "high compression" in the same sentence.
