Default Turbo for typeR??

Hey guys, I plan to do a very basic/budget turbo setup on my typeR.
Now before you all get your panties in a bunch, this is a beater DD EG with a swap, so Im not defacing the beloved typeR, best NA motor..... blah blah blah...

Anyways, Having had this engine in the car for a while, I find that I am just interested in getting more low end grunt. The area under the curve is whats important to me. Peak power isnt the goal here... ( I have a drag civic for that )

Basically I am just wondering what turbos you guys have had success with... I am more interested in a track type setup, and nobody spends more time at the track than typeR guys....

I have a few ideas, but I am looking to see what you guys have liked that you think that I can find inexpensively. Planning to run maybe 7psi probably NON intercooled to start off.
BUDGET IS KEY HERE...

any ideas? TIA

low end torque? hahahaha you got the wrong company. But really I think the cheapest set up you can get is a custom one. Just piece it together from what you can afford.

the word budget anf type r don't belong in the same sentence....you will be crying about a blown engine in a matter of days if you don't do it right. Don't even bother unless you get an intercooler!

if u want low end go with a smaller turbo: t3 or t4... Or even the turbo that comes with the greedy kits for integras and civics...

I don't think we are missing the point at all according to this:

With this kind of setup, you are not going to last very long. Your car will be sensitive to bad gas, hot weather, poor tuning, etc... Do yourself and your car a HUGE favor and don't start something like this unless you have a real plan in place! my two yen

Bandwagon? Were just trying to help you out in not doing things that will cause problems in the future for you.

But any way for low end a small t3 turbo would be good for your set up.

I agree with Miraiz

I think the point hes trying to say is that theres nothing wrong with a budget setup, but a budget non intercooled setup on an Itr motor ............ that's just not common sense. If this was an Ls motor then fine, you can get another one for less than $500, but if your going do boost the Itr then do it right, as it's not the cheapest motor on the block.

50 trim .48 a/r would ne nice for what your looking to do

you gotta remember though with that small of a turbo. . . . will it keep up with the revs of the ITR? i think your gonna push that little thing wayyyy too much

Thats okay Ls motors have 9 lives I thought you knew.

See the Ls motor is like a White trash *****, you can mistreat it and it will want more....

The b18c5 is like a Underage girl, you **** up once, and she will make you pay....

No really though I would love to one day boost and Itr, but I know when I do everything is going to be perfect.

6lbs out of a straight T3 .48/.48. Stock ITR motor, starion IC, 2" piping, 2.5" downpipe, mugen exhaust, test pipe.....very budget; less than $1100 for everything. This setup would build boost at idle with no problem, unbelievably quick spool.

I made the mistake of wanting big hp and found that it was a waste of time so I am building this set up again with just a few better parts.

this is obviously un-tuned

turbo type-r engine isnt a big problem, just after you turbo it it will give you way more problems then you could think of. that's where the money go.
why you need low end anyhow ? it's a high rev engine just rev it high

I have a greddy kit fitted to my ITR. with a inline pro head gasket(drops compression a full point) I am starting to make boost at 2k rpm and it pulls to redline. I am runnin a FMU with 450cc injectors, afc, missing link, and 255lph fuel pump. with the head gasket it has been runnin about 1bar of boost for over a year on stock internals. talk to jinxproof about the FMU set up I run he helped me a lot with mine. and as you can see by the times in my sig along with the MPH the turbo is very capable.

Keep it stock unless you plan on doing everything right. If you want power, your going to have to pay.
