bottom half of motor together; CP Pistons rings too thin??!!! PIX AND LOTS OF HELP!
Well slowly Im getting this thing put together with my mechanic. Today we got the block put together. The turbo shop next door (which is helping me with my turbo) thinks Im CRAZY for using the rings that came with my CP pistons. The 20 year experienced honda mechanic tells me the rings are THINNER then stock OEM rings. I cant put stock rings in because they dont fit. Im very worried about this now and I didnt find ANYONE else notice this as well. Here are some pics:

Before you flame me like my post before; I know I should have sleeved the block. This is my first motor and we all live and learn. Here is my setup before you ask:
-b16
-eagle rods
-cp pistons 9:1 (81.5mm)
-Race Eng. Block Guard
-ACL Bearnings
-AEBS Head studs
Im hoping to hit 400whp but I dont know yet. Mainly because I dont know how streetable it will be. (traction)(and yes uberdata)
Anyone with ring experience or even CP pistons experience please post some opinions. Im hella worried now.

if they came with the CP then that will be fine every racer uses aftermarket piston's and uses the rings that come with them, some upgrade but thickness between honda and an aftermarket piston ring does not have to be the same...

but how sure are we on this? Why would an OEM one be thicker and my aftermarket one be thinner....its just wierd to me

I know there are tons of people using these pistons/rings and I know they have all lasted but has ANYONE realized that they are thinner? Maybe the turboshop and the mechanic are just more paranoid then Im?
They are DEF. In SPEC!

How much ring-to-ring groove clearance is there? If the CP-included rings really are thinner and the CP grooves are machined to that size, then you shouldn't be trying to use a thicker ring in there or it'll bind.
All I know is I ordered CP pistons with CP piston rings. As you can see its already too late to change anything the pistons are in block.
We didnt measure anything but both the honda mechanic and the turbo d00d both said they were really thin. And the only way to change the ring size would to have the pistons machined to fit the new rings which would then be pointless. Everything fit snug with no problems and all were to specs...We were just discussing the thinkness of the ring vs OEM rings, thats the ONLY concern
After talking with some friends....possibly the material is strong then what the OEM ones are...maybe thats the difference....

Your worryin yourself for no reason. The rings are the same size JE uses and many other companies. That is ridiculous they would think that.

Not to worry...you own the best pistons AND rings available for Honda. Your mechanic's stock Honda rings should be good for 135whp and the CP's for 735whp.
Well Im glad Im tripping. You know I really truely believe my mechanic alot and the turbo shop as well. But its hard to compare experienced people with people Ive never met in real life. Im glad you guys took care of me
I just hope this motor is what I want it to be even without sleeves....
Thanks guys
(Im still going to call cp tomorrow though)

Motor looks very pretty. Btw, calm down. If cp gives you those rings to use, use them. They wouldn't include those rings in their kits if they are bad, their reputation is on the line.
UPDATE:
CP said theyre rings are stock spec and stock size. I have nothing to worry about. Its much to hard to just LOOK at a ring and think its thinner. We should measured it if we were that worried. ahh...what a relief.

We can get a dyno day...But I doubt we can get a discount if I bring a group. I know they charge 40 a pull 10 for every pull after that...and you can use the wideband for 40 bucks for every pull you do that day...
