Default Putting Turbo in , what about autocross

I'm putting a turbo in in the car this month and I was wondering because I never drove a turbo before how much different is it going to be when I'm out on the course compared to just have an N/A engine?

I know when the turbo spools up it will give a bump but, how do you handle this or will the car be all over the place?

Mine was a lot easier to handle than I thought. My right foot "learned" to deal with the non-linear power band immediately, so it was almost a non-issue. If anything, I had to work harder on braking more because my straightaway speeds were higher.

Of course, inside wheelsping will be a hassle if you don't have a LSD.

if the turbo is optimized so that it boosts at fairly low rpms you might not even notice it... just keep the revs up and I don't think it'll be too much of a problem

What does adding a turbo do as far as what class you run in for autocross?

street mod = fast bmw's and an even faster red civic.

Not sure but I'm already in MOD class so there's really not much farther I can go in classes. I have to stay under 16 points or I need a roll cage.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm sure it will take me a few runs before I'm comfortable driving it but, It be fun until I get to that point.

That's what I thought too. I'm still learning how to drive with the turbo in autocross. You pretty much have to relearn how to drive the car. As far as I know turbo kits throw you into Street Mod but if the car is gutted etc I would check the SCCA rule book to see exactly where you'll be.

ive (unfortunately) been bitten by the turbo bug, so ill be installing one sometime over the summer.

my plan is to run a somewhat smaller than normal turbo, and keep it at a low boost level. T25 + smallish IC = (hopefully) not horrid lag

SM, here i come

That's exactly my setup (in a nutshell). 18 months and 15,000 miles later I can't imagine EVER going back to N.A. There was a dramatic improvement in my autox times on courses that rewarded more power. And there was no corresponding time increase on courses that did not reward big power. That T25 is like an on-switch at anything above 3000 rpm's....
