Starts intermittently
94 EX Sometimes takes several turns of the key before it will start. Battery and VR ok, re Advance Auto check. Seems to be more prevalent when weather hot. Is Starter replacement next step? Expensive!

Does the started crank the engine over? Does it just click? Does it do nothing?

It just clicks. Starter does not engage. After several tries, sometimes many tries, it usually starts normally. Only a couple of times have I been unable to start it at all.
Check the big battery cables for corrosion or looseness. You want to check both ends of both cables, including where the cable itself is fastened into the end connector. Corrosion any of those places can act pretty strange (like this).
Sometimes its under the ground cable. Take the ground cable off where it attaches to the body, clean up the surface with emory paper, grease & put it back tight.
Before doing the same with the (+) wire at the starter, leave the (-) battery cable disconnected so you don't short the (+) wire...
Next time it won't start, rap the starter with a wrench or something while someone is trying to start it. If that works, it's the starter.
