I'm getting an awful clunking noise from inside my cam gear cover. There is also some sort of smoke coming from inside there. Anyone got any suggestions of what this might be? Also, is there anything I can check to diagnose this problem?
Cheers. I've got 40 miles to drive home, and I don't want to snap the cam belt if thats what is affected. The car is a 1991 ED7 Civic DOHC ZC!

yeah, any noise coming from there is not good news. better take it off before driving at all

Just don't look at it while it's running. If that thing snaps it's gonna leave a mark

 

Crankshadft pulley is loose as anything! Its running on the lower plastic cover. Any idea what part this could be that is gone. Can I drive it. Its really really tightened up, but as I say it wobbles loads.

 

if the bolt is still on the pulley and its tight but its wobbling, sounds like you have internal problems
