Default can the d series handle it?

ok.... I cant afford a swap at the moment. Putting to much into jdm styling and body work. Plus run a farm that keeps money tight until I get ready to go to the sale barn in like 4 months. So can my d-sereis be made fast and will it hold up. I have a 94 civic ex with d16z6. It is my second engine , spun bearings in the first? I have an AEM cold air intake, Ebay axle back exhaust, Ebay header dc-style, AEm cam gear(pointless realy), And catco converter. No ps or a/c. So I figure Im making a good 140 over the 127 stock.? But what should I do. Im thinking of a port and polish, cat-back , fuel pressure regulator, And a cam( I hear comp is cheap $250). Any suggestions for this lil engine. I dont want a 400hp beast. Just something to gain some respect for my d series, outrunning integras and b series civics would be nice.

not gonna happen if you keep getting ebay parts... a lot can be done to d series... but you won't be outrunning b series civics or integras thinking adjustable cam gears are pointless... but then again, i don't think you have a dyno in your barn... i would try bisi parts for sohc. not saying that ebay headers are bad, but from dyno numbers with headers, you get what you pay for...

-get a cat back
-get cam
-clutch/flywheel
-throttle body/intake match port
-pnp head
-tuning tuning tuning tuning

Well, first your car is NOT making 140 with those mods, nor is it making the 127 factory output rating. Most SOHC Vtec motors dyno 100-105hp range and 85-95ft/lbs stock, so with your few bolt-ons you maybe making around 110-115hp and 100-106ft/lbs (and thats giving you some).

Secondly yes, you can build a D-series to beat B-series civics and tegs. It's either gonna have to have one helluva head package and bolt-ons or turbo it.

I'm at the same cross-road you are. I have a d16y8 and I can't decide if I wanna do a mild build with a basic turbo kit or swap in a b-series. So while I decide I am saving every penny I can get my hands on until I have enough money to do anything to the motor at all.

sorry, your car is too heavy to
run a d16 allmotor.

also your ebay header and I doubt does much of anything. There is a chance that you could etiher be making 1-2hp with it or ever LOSING 1-2hp with it.
shoudla gone with a real dc

definetely turbo
you can do a custom turbo setup reliably and complete for 800bucks, or less
and it'd be fast

whoa...thats giving him a lot... my dohc zc made 123/106 wiht just bolt on's


looooose weight bro, and do some head work.....you can make it fast but more in a hatch than a coupe

With my D16Z6 with just a short ram, and N1 catback, gutted cat and a LS TB and port matched IM, I put 119 to the wheels and ran a 15.4 on shitty as Hankook tires, and thats in my "heavy" 2100 pound Ex coupe

The beauty of a **** load of weight reduction
With a full tank of gas and my 150 pound self my car weighed in at 2315, and that was fully gutted.... since then I've added the carpet and door panels so im right around 2100 now w/o me

Now I know why you ran 15.4 with 119 WHP
