axle binding and wobble at high speeds...
1993 Del Sol Si, JDM B16A engine, GSR Tranny:
I just recently got my tranny rebuilt and put a Quaife LSD in. Before the build there was no axle problems...everything running smoothly, except the fact that i need(ed) an alignment.
After the install, i took it to the track and had real bad wheel hop. After the track my driver's side outer axle was clicking pretty bad on turns and had vibration/wobble at high speeds. I replaced the axle and still had the problem. So i replaced the wheel bearing b/c that was bad. Then, it seemed as though the problem went away for a very quick moment, or was decreased, but it came back just as bad. Maybe it was my imagination that it went away for that short while. Now i still have the problem- its wobbling at high speeds pretty bad and binds (not a full out axle click) while turning- worse the harder the turn.
What else could it be? Is there any chance i got a USDM axle instead of a JDM B16A into del sol axle? Maybe the new axle got ruined from driving on it with the broken wheel bearing and i need a new one already? Needing an alignment reeealy bad wouldn't cause the axle to bind, would it? (i'm getting the alignment this week, right after i finish installing the Hyperflex kit, and full-race traction bars) I thought about getting the wheels balanced, but would that cause the "thump-thump-thump..." that i get with the axle on turns?
The axle is seated into the tranny as much as i would go. that was my 1st thought before new axle and wheel bearing.

well....i knew i needed ****-ignment and that could have to do with the problem..... but when i took it to Phil @ Phillips Racing (www.philstireservice.com) he found the problem. One of the tie rod nuts was loose. That caused the whole problem. it was a intermitant vibration and occasional binding on turns. It was very strong and scary, lol. but all is well now.
