Default D15B Hatchback DX - 130-140hp all motor?

Its a fairly stock 1988 civic hatchback dx that was semi-wrecked. it needs a hood, fender, and bumper to be back to factory specs, save for a custom cold air intake.

If I can take it to 130+ ponies with the stock, dpi d15b, I'm going to rebuild it and jazz it up a little.

Any suggestions?

ZC is just like any other motor for reliability, if its treated right it will be good...

Z6 Head
Y8 Manfiold
GOOD Bolt Ons
Advanced timing
cam gear

whp would be hard if u plan on leaving the head/block stock. if so get a 50 shot, sure fire.

my dohc zc is the only motor ive ever had problems with. they burn oil, dont rev high, and i think the power rating is overrated. why swap it if you have to be 'good' to it.

i had a zc before in a 91 hatch with the basic bolt ons and a 65 dry shot and went consistant 13.4s. all motor was consistant 14.8-9. dont hate on the zc, just like every other motor in the hands of the un experienced they are subject to poor tuning

but to answer, a simple way to up horsepower to your stock dual point is to do a multi point conversion, which entails a mpfi manifold, fuel rail, injectors, and fuel injector wiring. that will up horsepower and be available in a junk yard, but realistily, 130 horse from a dual point, or even dual to multi point is going to cost more than its worth. save 500 bucks and drop a ZC in, at least youll have some torque to go along with the increased power

Sarcasm88dx.......if your not surre of the abreviations being thrown around, just ask
You might get flamed for not knowing once in a while, but if you dont ask you'll never know. And my bad if you do know and i assume you dont.

There's quite a few options here in the D. If you have the money to buy a whole engine, then definitely do so. The D15b is nothing fun to work with, has a crap tranny (although i favor 5th gear) and the DPFI is horrid.

D16Z6.SOHC VTEC..92-95 civic SI...roughtly 125HP (full engine's)
D16y8..SOHC VTEC..96-00 civic Ex..roughtly..127 as well
D16A6 ..88-91 civic SI............... 106 HP non vtec
D16ZC...88-91 jdm civic SI DOHC non Vtec......125-130?HP definitely more torque,

as far as easiest way to get 115-120HP..?........

You could also get the head from one of these(except the ZC), and put it on the D15b block, but IMO start with something 1.6 at least., it will get you what you want except for the a6 head.

honda tech classifieds is good for searching parts as well. IF you wanted a Z6 block and a Y8 head, you could also find it here. As well as most other combinations.

TUrbo is also something to keep in mind, becauase you'll surely feend for more power, the more you work on it. So thinking about keeping the compression low is key

heres a decent build you could do use d15z1 rods with d16a6 pistons a d16y8 head
the reg. bolt ons an d16a6 tranny and a mpfi swap and you should make the power u want maybe a little more with a little tuning and don't for get to run the PM6 out of the d16a6 and rig a way to actovate VTEC

i find that very hard to believe. my zc ran 15.39 on motor and that was considered VERY good. it had mods too. 15.8-15.9 with basics. people didnt believe mine ran 14.1 with nitrous.

but you said you have a zc before... does that mean it blew up like the rest of them?

do the multi point converion, and put in the sohc zc, that is a very easy swap and it will give you the horse power your looking for for the least amount of money

oh yeah get a usdm si or jdm dohc zc tranny for the best way to make your car faster

106 for 88/89, and then 108 for 90/91 I believe.

I am also trying to get my hatch up to that hp for autoxing. I have an automatic 92 hatchback. My cousin is telling me to put a vtec head on it. But I have no idea wich will fit on it. I am looking to make about 125hp to the wheels.
