A/C Compressor, dried out?!
Well i removed the a/c from my 97 LS about 4 months ago and the compressor has been sitting in a safe place where no dirt or dust can get to it.
I was in an accident about a month ago and the place that is doing all of my body work told me that they needed to put the a/c back in. So i said cool, its starting to get upwards of 100 here anyways.
So i take everything into them and they are telling me that since the compressor was sitting for more then 48 hours off the car that they refuse to re-use it because its 'all dried up'
I told the know-it-all bimbo at the desk of the body shop that the compressor was fine and to install it anyways because a friend of mine had his a/c compressor sitting for more then a year off the car and when he installed it, the a/c worked great. She told me that i was lying and then continued to bag on the paint job of my car.
Anyways H-T what do you guys think? Is she right? Do our compressors dry up after 48 hours of not being on the car and can nevvar be used again?

sounds like you need to find yourself another shop.
doesnt sound like someone who works there would talk to someone who is brining in a couple thousand dollars of work. take your car and your money elsewhere.

so far 8700 dollars worth of work, they didnt want to total our integra because it was appraised at 12500. the girl told me on the phone that im just another "know-it-all kid" and that i am wrong because she has been in this business for over 10 years and knows what she is talking about. i should just tell them **** it and after they fix the damage ill install it myself
but do the compressors really dry out like she says? ive never heard of this before and everyone of my friends that has ripped out their a/c and then re-installed it has never had this "dried out" problem. theirs worked perfect.

if it helps any, i just put my a/c system back in my car, used a compressor i got from a friend that was sitting in his garage for about 3 years(covered though, so it wouldn't get dirt inside). And the compressor works fine. All i did was turn it upside down to see if there was any oil left inside and sure enough there was.
I dont see why they say that, the only thing that can be "dried out" are the seals, O-rings. They are prolly refusing to put it in because they are responsible for leaks and whatnot when the system is charged. If they are not 608 ceritfied then they cannot charge the system. So they will prolly have you go somewhere else or maybe they dont have the equipment to properly charge it. Either way It has to be something regarding legal matters or theya re just stupid
Thats bull I bought a compressor for my old car from a junkyard. The compressor had been sitting on the floor in the warehouse there for ages uncovered and it worked great.

that whole legal issue is prob the problem, this place thinks they know more about a car that i built and they have only had it for 4 weeks and its just been sitting in their lot. ill ask them if they are licensed to charge the system because when i bought the supplies for it they never asked about freon just some compressor oil
so its your fault. you dont have to let them tow the car.
tell them your going to tow it to YOUR shop, and if the adjuster wants to look at it. to go there.
thats how it works.
you agreed to have them take it to one of their many certified shops. thats not nessesary tho.
well i guess you can learn for next time now. but id definitly not wanna have my car there if im telling them to do something and they dont do it.
see if you can get your car out of there.
i took my car to a shitty shop and i told them i want exactly what to be done, and they didnt even do it correctly and i had given them the check from insurance prior, big mistake on my part.
extra things i told them to do:
fix my front itr spoiler it was scuffed
remove and shave antenna
remove and shave acura emblem
remove and shave acura logo
remove and shave keyhole
paint side skirts
remove and shave spoiler holes in bonnet
out of everything i requested:
front spoiler spot painted
antenna not removed because "oh we didnt remove it because we have to move alot of upholstery and it was too dificult"
acura emblem removed and shaved
acura logo removed BUT NOT shaved - 2 holes remained
keyhole left because "we thought you'd need it to get in your trunk so we left it"
side skirts painted
spoiler holes removed
out of everything needed to be done, only the side skirts and front lip was extra work because the car was rear-ended and all the stuff in the rear needed to be repainted anyway.
i was supposed to pay 175 dollars for the paint of side skirts and lip but i didnt.
so all those things remained undone
last august i got my car repainted and they removed the acura logo holes. but i decided to leave the antenna and keyhole.
also the shop when they repainted my bumper, they oversprayed and it dried like that leaving a paint run on my bumper

yet from that experience i learned for the next time.
lets hope no one has a next time.
however
tow your car to your shop, and call your insurance and tell them the car was towed to your personal shop and its undrivable to take to their shop so the appraiser must go there to look at and discuss with the mechanic/painter what else is needed for additonal funding.
i hope your car comes out looking the way you want it. it looks like they dont give 2 *****.

Somebody is getting confused over what does what in an A/C system.
And mixing their metaphors so to speak
I do believe SOMEONE means the reciever/ dryer drys out in 48 hrs. or so.
But this incorrect ALSO. As it takes a little longer than 48 hrs. Prehaps, in a few days, but at least within a week. And it DOESN'T DRY OUT it does the opposite. The dessicant inside the reciever /dryer {or heater / dryer if you prefer),
Is DESIGNED to absorb moisture from the "freon" or "refrigerant" if you prefer.
If left open to the atmosphere for more a few hours the dessicant absorbs too much moisture from th air and is ruined.
My .02 cents.

gayness. just own them with the last post above yours.... i'd trust a kid who reads and works on his own car doing major work for a few years than a ******* 40 year old BIMBO behind the desk for 10 years.
