Default Mugen intake install in a GSR (pic extensive)

Well, I got it in. It wasn't all that difficult, just time consuming.

Here is a link to another install (in a ITR) https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=376228.
That link will come in handy.

This is what I was starting out with........

here is a close up of the a/c lines that you have to contend with.

after the AEM was removed, I removed the a/c condenser fan unbolted the radiator and radiator fan so I could move them over to the drivers side of the car as far as I could. ** NOTE using the link I provided above with kkim's install, you can see that you can remove the engine/trannie mount bolts to get more room, I chose doing it this way.

Then it was time to play with the a/c lines. I had to do alittle more than massage the lines. I used zip-ties to hold the lg a/c line over to the drivers side. On the sm a/c line, I bent it almost straight. Then I mounted it next to the abs modulator (don't have a pic of that :hammer) The a/c line mount needs to be removed also.

With the a/c lines spread like a young virgins legs, I had enough room to slide the intake in

here is a pic of the sm a/c line... doesn't rub!!!

There are 2 bolts that mount the intake near the abs modulator. With the GSR modulator you can't get the second bolt in........ but underneath the car where the snorkel clamps to the intake. The clamp has a mount built into it. As long as those two mounts and the mount that is on the filter (that pic will be added later... my battery died in the camara) are used, the intake is stable and doesn't move.
(use link above for a reference)

Then underneath the car I attached the snorkel using aluminum duct tape and used the above mentioned clamp and mounted it to the chassis.

Everything all put back together.... I still need to do something with the lg a/c line but it is out of the way and doesn't rub the intake.

I was a little concerned about bending the a/c lines. With all of the bending ( GENTLY ) I don't have any leaks and the a/c works.

I test drove the car last night after the install. It is definately an improvement over the Aem, mid range is fukin awesome and the throttle response kicks ***. The topend of the rpm range has improved also....... I only tested it in 3rd gear starting at 2.5k and went to 6.5-7k so I will have to get back to you about a REAL driving impression........ cheers

Don't mean to sound dumb, but are the advantages of this intake over others?

yes the pure fact that you can afford a 350 dollar intake make syou a abetter man then anyone else on this board. just buy an ice box and a drop in k$n. the numbers will be identical. plus why is there a bottle neck right at the intake arm. is it supposed to be a velocity design?

besides the bling factor it offers nothing better than any other quality manufactured intake. but it is a short ram with a cold air inet which will net you initial torque response and slightly higher hp numbers(slightly).

but the comptech will do the same thing.

ahhhhh, yeah, I wish it was only a $350 intake!!! Don't think it makes me a better man...... sorry about your insecurities!!
I don't know where this bottle neck is... but I will buy an Icebox now. Please go to an Ice box or a I hate Mugen thread please.

Back on topic, I know that the lighting in my garage sucks so I took a couple of pix yesterday in the daylight.

heres a pic of the pig I put it into. Please excuse the road construction

Nice intake! Do you know of any dynos? Not for nothing, but if I had the nerve to pay $600+ for an intake, I would deffinately have a before and after dyno.

Too many haters that wish they could sport the best.

Mad props on that fabrication man. I wanted to do the same but too many reputable sources said that it wasn't possible. Im glad that someone had the guts to try this out and make the impossible happen. (mad jealousy here)

Again, looks sweet and forget the haters cause obviously they havent seen the dynos of this intake before.

Nice. Real nice.

When someone buys something nice, people cut on them for having the money.

If they buy something totally DIY and cost them $5 - cool. But if you have the money, and it IS the best intake - why the **** not?

I'm not going to rant about the intake again - I did that in Comp97GSR's other thread. People are so ridiculous.

intakes are one of the most difficult things to dyno test and notice the true gains, because the air velocity is different on a dyno with a shop fan as opposed to the open road (or in a wind tunnel as manufacturers test)

I might get it dynoed. When it comes to CAI's, dynos really don't do them justice. That is why short rams perform better on the dyno, having the hood open with a giant fan blowing cool air over them while in the real world with the hood closed they are subject to ingesting warmer air. All I can say is I know that there is an improvement over the Aem and I am VERY happy with my purchase!!!

wrong.
the comptech will NOT do the same thing because the opening to the airbox/intake duct on the mugen is soooo much bigger than the comptech.

there was a picture on this board comparing the two; amazing how you can even fit the mugen in when thinking what a tight squeez the icebox was. and yes i used to have an icebox, so i know it was a fairly tight fit to install.

to all you haters.
