Default Bouncing tach - already replaced ignitor - Please HELP

I have a 89 CRX DX, and I have the classic 'bouncing' tach problem. As long as I am moving I'm okay, but when I brake or stop, the tach starts bouncing like crazy. It sounds like the car is missing or is gonna die.

Also, when I brake or stop (at night) the dash lights and climate control lights dim very low. And when I accelerate from a stop, the car hesitates.

I've replaced the ignitor already (which helped for a little while), and I replaced the alternator about 2 years ago. What else could it be? Do I need a whole new distributor?

Please help, it's about to drive me crazy Thanks.

i would check :

Spark Plugs
IACV located on back of throttle body

to check that take it off spray it with carb cleaner dry and then put it back on.
and check the idle screw.

Just had a similar problem. More than likely its the battery, Have it tested and see if its holding the right amp and voltage. Sometimes they can go slowly and still be able to start the car.

I replaced the battery about 3 years ago, and the alternator about 2 years ago. Do you think they would fail that quickly?

Get them tested.

Depends a lot on how much you drive, how you drive, where you drive, and what brand compents you have.

Ok, I had the battery tested and it was okay. I changed the spark plugs and fuel filter (regular tune-up stuff), and the car still sounds like it's missing, or gonna die. It also hesitates when I accelerate from a stop. Any other ideas?

check your cap and rotor. If the rotor has little knicks in it, replace the cap and rotor. The cap and rotor should help with the hesitation. Also check your fast idle sensor which is on the bottom side of the intake mani or TB (i forget), and that will help with the irratic idle.
