Default Help with door panels! The paint is falling off the moldings

Ok, on my 93 civic sedan... i have these door moldings at the top of the panel. Basically the paint is old and starting to chip off like crazy. I tried painting them before (no idea what i used) but that has already come off...

Any paint recomendations?? and also does anyone know any topics that have been on HT about how to even go about getting these bad boys off??
here's a pic

get a plastic puddy knife and just chip everything off. Then respray it with trim paint. Should hold. It looks like you didnt clean the whole thing off before you painted. Make sure its nice and blinggy before you paint.

I scraped mine polished and then painted with trim paint that supposedly "adhese to bare metal" but it's been 6 months and it's already falling off...
those moldings are a pain...

You're going to have to just snap it off. I did the same thing and was told they you just break the clips off and buy new ones when you're ready to put it back on. I think they are 1 buck a piece. Check out hondaautomotiveparts.com to get the clips. btw- I am repainting mine a second time and they are $50 brand new so....that sucks...

just put some black electrical tape on it and you'll be fine. Holds up well and looks good.

they snap right out. lower your window all the way down and just gently pry them off. i bought sand paper for mine but then ended up not even sanding them. just paint them with FLAT BLACK spray paint. i did mine a very long time ago and they out lived my car. i crashed it. but the moldings still had paint on them.

i just did mine yesterday... broke all clips but 2.. scraped all the rubber off on the outside and not where to stop water from coming into door. sand it down and wiped it with alcohol to make the aluminum adhere to the paint.. went got black trim paint and masked all the other rubber stuff to not crack the paint from the rubber movement. painted it and it looks really good now don't know how long it is going to last thou....

I did mine about 6 months ago, 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of flat black krylon, its still holding up to this day.

Those clips are a bitch though, I broke a couple of them and could never find new ones (other than the dealer) so I just left them off

Yea i did my 2 driver side ones... they look decent... i sanded them down and then wiped em down with alcohol. those clips are seriously no fun though :\

so what i did for the passenger side ones was to just tape up my car... and then cover it with newspaper... i just sprayed them while they were still on. i was damn impressed, worked like a charm I must just be a pro
(i spent forever getting them covered up so i didn't have black spots on my paint...)

^^highly recommended... it goes faster than taking off those stupid clips and having half of them ending up breaking on you

Is this true? Would this mean that new VX pieces from the dealer might possibly cost less than the $50 painted metal ones as well? Anyone?

I also did the 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of flat black krylon on my windshield whiper arms. Worked like a charm, just thought I'd throw that in since we are on the subject of bling reduction.

$100 is to much to spend on a piece of weather strip, for that price you might as well upgrade to a carbon fiber piece

it was definately easier... i took 1/4 off and just covered up the other 3/4.

so much easier to just cover up the car.....

I used krinkle/wrinkle paint to paint mines. that was the closet i found that matched the same texture as the oem one.

I sanded mine down and used some glossy black spray paint to re-paint it. I did about 4 coats. It looks great and I find that the glossy texture matches the window sash better than the wrinkle paint.

best said right here, i re-did mine in reg black paint and it stuck for a long time. but the moldings are different, i had to do it the way it says above

Clean it up real good to get rid of dirt, oil, grease etc... then sand it to get rid of all the old paint and rest of the **** and to roughen it up a bit. Dont sand it too smooth though, this allows the paint to stick to it better
