I am also building an LS VTEC. I am going to run the p28 ECU which doesn't have a knock sensor circuuit so you don't need to worry about it. If you use the p72 or the p30 you will have to install and wire up the knock sensor. hope this helps.

i also used the alternator bracket. what i did was i put jb weld into the hole and then just put my knock sensor inside of it, and then just let it heal overnight.

do you have to tap a hole where the alternator bracket is in order to screw in the knock sensor or is there a hole where u can just screw it in?

if the car is a ls don't need to use a knock just run the car without it to pass inspection then plug the P28 back in. if you have a gsr ecu then you could put it on the alt bracket hole but I would not drive on it long like that.

you can manually wire it if you have a dohc vtec, i dont think p28s have a knock sensor...but unless the ecu can read it, it wont put a CEL out anyway. its easier to get a chip for like $20 and jump it altogether, i think.

Uberdata, Crome, etc. etc. They all can make your ECU not look for the knock sensor.
Mine doesn't have knock, ELD, vtec speed (cable tranny) or vtec coolant checks.
Chipped p28

I'm pretty sure the LS blocks never had knock sensors, but I might be mistaken, anyhow, it's on the block, close to the alternator bracket, right up top where the head meets the block.

Only if you want one. Otherwise just get an ecu that doesn't look for one, or chip an ecu and disable it.
