Default AEM cam gear troubles....

Car: 96 h23a prelude

I have installed these cam gears and the horizontal tick marks on the side that are supposed to line up when at TDC are way the **** off. Is this normal for the AEM cam gears to do? I know on my set they line up well, but on this car they are as crooked as a person with a lazy eye. This is the second set that have given me trouble.

If anyone has ran into this problem before let me know. Thanks.

well if you know that the cams are set at tdc for #1 by using the pins to set the cams in place and they are installed with the key way, and the bottome end is perfectly lined up at TDC , then i would say **** it,

i think i have heard of them not lining up, i don't want to sound retarted , but is one supposed to go to the exhaust and the other to the intake cam and you just swapped them around?

p.s. ne word from cody?

I am having the same problems we had on your car nick.

The tick marks are WAY the **** off, I guess that's why the gears were advanced 5 degrees each when they arrived from ebay. After advancing the gear we managed to have the ticks line up with the punches in the cam caps/gear but every rotation keeps jumping the belt and will not hold enough tension.

This is ******* rediculous, I am putting the stock ones back on. A 1 hour job has now turned into a 5 hour headache.

I think that's a pretty common problem with AEM's. A lot of factory defect ones get sold on ebay.

Yea we wasted pretty much our whole day. Hopefully tonight we'll have the DP and IC piping all fabbed up and ready to go. I'm going to redo the timing portion of the car tomorrow, one more minute of looking at that **** and I'm gonna wave the white flag.

I am going to tune it for 5psi then at 7 when he gets hondata.

I actually have AEM cam gears on my set-up and they work perfectly. This kids set however is the 2nd pair that have been completely out of wack. Let this serve as a warning to anyone looking for a cheap pair of cam gears on e-bay.
