My car came stock with a CAI (EG HB 95). it sucks air iside the right fender. I want to replace it with a short Ram intake with high airflow filter. No mods on the motor. Will it improve the performance of the car or there will be un noticable changes on the performance? BTW I live in a tropical country where ambient temp is from 25degC to 32degC.

Searched a lot of CAI threads but didn't find an answer.

 

You won't really feel any difference. Only big different is the noise. The ram air will make it louder. You might possibly feel a little more lower end torque. Not much cause it's a honda.
And yes i have both AEM cai and ram air.

I think he's referring to a short ram, or "filter on a stick" not a Ram air.

If you're referring to the factory intake system pulling air from the fender, moving to an open element filter and pipe might make a little bit of power, but don't expect much from just an intake upgrade.

Yup that what I was referring to. I asked coz you go for CAI so air is more dense when it enters. You go for short ram to increase airflow. I have CAI but its stock. If I go for an after market filter and tube I'll be running hot air so it might make no sense replacing the air intake.

From experience on the same D16Z6 Civic with the Iceman in both configurations I can say this: Peak hp remains the same regardless of CAI or "short ram" configuration according to AEBS' Dynojet 248C.


*However*

A peak GAIN of 6hp at 4400rpm was realized with the CAI configuration. With the short ram configuration, most of the gains was over 5200rpm.

I had iceman before, and it did made a difference when im going above 80km/h but i removed it coz of the rain .

What brand CAI is it? The AEM (first version) was disappointing. Same Civic as the one the Iceman was tested on. The AEM had a 1-2hp loss under 3500 rpm, and then the peak hp (which was also the peak gain) was about 2hp in the 6500rpm area.

 

My CAI is stock Honda, the ones that suck air inside the fender. I want a KNN on a short pipe, the reason is cosmetics. It just looks good to me. But I do not want to sacrifice performance.

 

If it's completely stock then it actually sucks air from a funnel just behind the passenger headlight! It leads down to the resonator in the fender and back up to the airbox. This is done to reduce noise.

Agreed. I use a short ram because I prefer top end pull, but the CAI will usually give you nice power bump in the midrange.
