How much room/time do you need for a swap?
Okay, so my car is as slow as molasses. I have about $2500 saved up and hoping to have about $3000 by the time summer comes around. Im considering using that money on a swap... but if I were to do one I would want to do it myself. I just wanted to know if i could. I have basic mechanical knowledge, but my uncle and a close family friend know a good deal more than me. I also do not have a garage or a level driveway (its slanted at like 10 degrees). Its narrow, only fits one car. How much time would I need to spend, assuming the worsts and the bests (2 times please?), and how much room do i need? Could I do it? Btw im thinking b16 into 94 civic
First timer week to a month.
Pro, 3 days.
way to much time on your hands and a great team hour and half (i think thats the world record of a D series to B series swap done.)
Also you dont need much space. Just someplace that is level would be alot easier to work with. if your parents let you put your car on the grass in the back yard then do it there, just dont spill any oil or else the grass wont grow back ever, lol

I've done several B16's into EG's in single car garages in less than 4 hours...running to running.
But my first one took about 2 days......depends on how good you are. Have a spare car to drive- pick up parts, etc, cause it may take longer than you expected....actually, it WILL take longer

you don't need very much room. just enough to get one motor in and then out. i personally like working in a nice big clean area, and have all my tools organized.
personally wouldn't recommend doing a swap on a slanted drive way.
i think anyone with basic mechanical skills and common sense can swap a motor. i did my B18C1 swap by myself with only hand tools for the first time with no problems. i say try to do it and just have your uncle help you. after you're done swapping you'll realize how easy it is. good luck.

4 hours
thats how long it takes me to do an oil change... haha not really.... I wish it only took me 4 hours.
So basically, im gonna assume like 1 week. Hmmmmmm thanks

I would say 1 to 2 to 3 days depends how much you actually know. Also it helps alot to have all the tools handy believe me. I can take the motor out and in like 5-6 hours but if I have to go looking around for tools it will drag for ever, you will loose all the pleasure in doing it.
my first time it took me 4 hours to pull my old motor and 6 hours to swap in the B18C1. please note, that this was by myself with hand tools and lifting the motor into place with a floorjack.

Pro? 3 days? You mean like.. 3 hours, max?
If you're strapped for cash, get a B16 w/ LSD swap. Then you can save for a b20 or b18 bottom end later on when you get tired of the wheezy 1.6L.

unless you're swapping an obd1 motor into an obd1 car i would say the wiring is the most difficult, especially if you don't have a helms or wiring diagram.
Alright first of all what model? Hatch, coupe, 4 door? cx.........si? Make sure you know what to wire in. me and two friends did it in a night, then again we knew we had everything we needed. before that we started on a b16 swap into an hf rex one weekend not knowing the hubs were smaller. so we had to wait til monday to go to a junkyard. so make sure you have everything and you could do it in a weekend
if its first gen then simple, second gen not for sure but my friend needed an obd1 distributer and to reprogram his ecu. your already wired for vtec so thats good. once again just make sure you have everything
^^ that would be beautiful, man i cant wait to do my swap, good luck
but like they said, try to have some expiernced friends to help, check your local sport compact boards to see if anyone will help

Yo isn't the first gen obd0 and second obd1. And first gen is cable, and second hydro. Also first is for EF and second is more for EGs.

local sports compact boards... they exist? haha
I live in long island, anyone live around here? haha or know a "local sports compact board" - not trying to mock.

lol it's all good, i just know living in michigan all the tuners here visit xceedspeed.com, and we all meet up at annually, and when i had an engine problems, some of em could help me out
fastest i've ever taken a swap out was 45 minutes, spun a bearing so we were tryin to get that **** out, and that was a gsr
still waitin to see how long it'll take us to put it back in after it comes outa the machine shop

I would rethink the B16 swap altogether if I was you. You've got a decent head, that can be built on. Throw on a Phantom Grip LSD kit ($250), with a ZEX cam ($240), and you'll run better than the B16's
. Total time for this work is about an hour and a half, if you've got some help. Just something to think about....

Believe me you don't wonna use phantom grip, and Zex cam won't improve the d series that much to beat a B. You need to turbo D then you will walk B.
