Ride Height on Stock Shocks / Struts
Alright, now I've heard numerous people saying it both ways, so I wanna get the right answer here...
Do you need different struts if you are going to lower your ride 2" all the way around? Ive heard some people saying you'll ruin your struts within a year and ive also been told not to worry about the struts.
I was planning on getting some custom GC coilovers cuz i got a H22, but am unsure if i should be buying some new struts. Also, the car only has 60k on it, so the suspension couldnt be too badly worn.

thanks for the quick reply... but
if i were to just toss some GCs on the stock suspension dropped 2", do you think i could roll around like that for 3 months before i buy the konis, then throw the konis on?

From what I understand stock shocks (prior to the 2001 line-up) are actually pretty tough. Personally, though, I would save up the extra cash for a good set of shocks before adding the springs - especially if you're dropping in an H22. "Do it once, do it right," right?

I don't know what kind of spring rates you'll be using with your Ground Controls, but I think you'll be fine for three months on stock shocks. I ran for over a year on stock shocks with a 2.5" drop. Granted, the spring rates were pretty soft but still stiffer than stock, of course. When I installed Koni Yellows, the stock shocks were perfectly fine.
So if they're good now, you shouldn't worry too much about running them for only three months.

The rule of thumb is about 1.5" before needing a kit. I'm lowered 2.5" on my EJ8 and still don't have a kit. My front camber is only -1.1 on each side, but the rear is about -2.8 and -2.6 on the driver and passenger side.

thats what i would recommend... unless you like taking your springs/coilovers out all the time... if you lower your car 2" you may or may not blow your shocks... if you were to go any lower i would definately say get some aftermarket shocks but its your choice....id go with koni yellows or tokico illuminas
also if you have a h22 you are definatley going to want shocks... it will make the ride that much smoother... id actually go with a full coilover system like tein because the parts are made to work together... not saying a combination wont work as good but i have had better experiences with a full coilover system

Yea, I have had mine for almost a year and nothing wrong. Its a 11 year old car too!!
Not sure where you get your sources, but personal experience is best! Yes it is better to get new struts, but I have not had any problem with mine and dont intend on getting new struts/shocks for a long time

im on neuspeed race springs 2 inch drop or more and im on stock shocks, i have been for about over 1 year, i will be replacing my shocks with some KYB agx's allready ordered! the ride wasnt to bad at first but it just started to get more bouncy as time went on, but still have not blown them, u could ride on them for a while, and save up for some new shocks so u can dig the new shocks even more!

You should be alright. Im dropped around 2 inches and have been on stock struts for about half a year now. And the roads around these parts are ****.
At the same time, i've heard of people blowing their stockers in a matter or weeks.
