I found a 94 civic ex for sale what do i need to know about it before i buy it?

make sure it has seats and a steering wheel

 

get the vin and the mileage and run a carfax on it.

 

You should know that you'd be better off buying a CX hatch, swapping the engine, and building the suspension.

thats obvious.. what shouldnt you look for? first off run a carfax so you know your not getting scammed in anyway.
then bascially test drive the car.
make sure its not warmed up when you get there. start it up see how it starts. check the oil. ask for records. look at the motor. drive it around. test the clutch. test everything out. if you like it.. negotiate the price.

 

carfax is important, so is the title an condition of motor of course

 

carfax... test drive, spark plugs, record of maintence.. all important

 

the car has a clean title with 132k miles on it. It needs some work but he only wants $2000 for it. the guy has not driven it for about a year and he just put in a new clutch. he is holding it for me right now i think i am going to buy it tomorrow.

im sure you can work the price down to around $1700-$1800 easily

 

check suspension too!
take 1700-1800 cash and tell him thats all you could bring up right now.

sometimes I buy cars on a whim... I don't even test drive them. everything on a car is replacable except the unibody itself. I check for obvious traumatic body damage.... then take the car home.

 

Rust.

 

you dont want to buy a car that needs everything replaced. thats not smart. unless your planning on buying a car for that specific reason.

as stated before, carfax

 

The car has a little rust on the back fender but i live in Minnesota and any car that old is going to have some rust. I have a friend who does some body work and he said it would be no problem to fix.

 

I am going to go buy the car today thanks for the help i will try to get some pics posted soon
