New 04 Owner
I picked up my 04 S2000 on Friday 5/28. Its still stock for now. I dynoed it with 400 miles on it and made 199/139 and then again yesterday with 1000 miles on it. So far my plans are tein flex coilovers but I will probably wait until after she's turboed before I play with the suspension. I still have a gt35r I was planning to use on another project. I'm going to get the Inline Pro manifold, large precision intercooler, Tial Bov, Tial 44mm wg, custom piping and AEM EMS. I will probably order the AEM and run it all motor since I haven't played with the AEM before and maybe pick up a few hp all motor. Btw I;m very happy with how the s2000 handles but it does feel slow as hell.
Here is my dyno from yesterday.

I don't plan for this car to get that carried away but when I first got my hatch my goal was to run a 12.99. Right now I think 330-350whp will be fun enough at first in the s2000.
hahaha
i was like SLOW? s2k's are slow? and then i saw your #'s in the sig....
did you read a few post up? full-race made 510?
i've seen a inline dyno on an s2k with just an afc, and it made 370whp? i think?

haha i thought the same thing until i did the same thing.
Remember the S is all about the track ***-handing done to other cars, not about the straights. Congrats on teh buy. only thing i dont like about the newer ones is that it redlines like a R ( i love 9k) and the suspension was softened.

the suspension wasn't softened, it was improved to rid the car of it's quirkly nature when driven at the limit. Plus the engine makes more torque when needed below vtec and in a rpm band where you drive the car most often and shift in.

Per everything I've read, the changes to the car were engine and suspension. The suspension changes DID soften the rear, and that makes the car a little more docile so those with less skills don't keep ending up in ditches... Though probably compromising some track performance.
the diff is all this "improved lower end torque" is neglible. they're both torqueless wonders. and 99% of you splitting hairs over suspension changes can't even exploit a civic Si at a track. it's comedy
as for it being slow.. it's only slow because you like to straight line monkey race. why anyone buys japanese sports ars to race in a straightline is beyond me.

No no Rob, didn't you see in the contract that when you buy a Japanese sports car it is not allowed to be used for any competition other than road course racing?? You can't use your own car for what you want to do with it!

I think 5600-5700 would be a better crossover. I'm in the process of buying a house so the turbo will be put off for a few months. I'll throw on a AEM V2 and probably a Vafc for now and see what I can do on the dyno. I know it won't be anything amazing but I've had it for 2 weeks and its driving me crazy being stock still.

Good, because nobody is asking you.

I drove an '04 against my friend in an '01 and the '01 beat me both times. Then I drove his car and he drove the '04. The '01 still won both times. BTW, I'm a better driver, and we switched cars, so nothing about driver. They were from a low 1st gear roll. For the sacrifice in top end power, the extra(negligable) torque in midrange just wasn't worth it.
I think the S2K needs that redline, and as far as the suspension goes, it was different but not terribly noticable.

Hmm, my dad recently purchased a new 04 and ive had about 500 miles seat time in it so far. Ive driven previous models and can really say besides the 9k wailing redline, i love all the new changes the 04 brought. IMO, the 04 is noticibly faster than older models, and has an even more aggresive punch at the vtec crossover. Tranny is improved, nicer wheels/tires with increased grip and the torque difference is more than obvious, its almost like driving a smooth inline 6. If it boiled down to it tho, the 00-03 would be better track cars after i/h/e and some tuning... the 04 is a better daily driver and just as fun.

It may feel faster because of the added torque, but it is a slower car in the 1/4 and on a highway run.

Correct same ole vtec system, and who says this motor is a torqueless wonder? PLEASE somebody point out a 2.0 4 banger N/A that has more torque than this car. I mean seriously I would love to know (one exception, has to be available off a showroom in the US).
I wasn't the one that said it was a torqueless wonder, but when driving it, it does lack torque. However, it makes up for it with higher hp.
I don't really care about the numbers so much, IF it can hang with other fast cars in the 1/4, on the highway, and on the road course. The car handles well, and is decently fast on the highway, in the 1/4 though you have to be a great driver to extract the power.
But with only 180 ft/lb of torque, it is pretty torqueless. But for the motor size, when compared to other cars out there, it has a lot of torque. My 2.8L VR6 Corrado had about 180 ft/lbs. It just goes to show you how much technology helps. Of course I'd rather see the 9K redline back, b/c it needs it.
I like the car, and was even thinking about getting one at one point.
